Musicals of 1937==>Blah And Bland

Tuesday==>at 8:30am this morning it was slightly overcast, windy and cold, 39º, in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. At least it is above freezing.

In the name of fair and unbiased reporting Billi Pod must share with you loyal and faithful readers and followers his semi-report card on last night’s entertainment event ...

BROADWAY BY THE YEARS: Musicals of 1937 @ Town Hall==>a major disappointment - blah and bland.

The show’s producer and emcee, Scott Siegle, kept saying that 1937 was a less than stellar year on Broadway and now I know why ... everything was snooze inducingly boring.

The only remotely interesting show was “Babes In Arms” by Rodgers & Hart.

I had a decent comp. seat in the rear orchestra area. The two guys seated to my right kept nodding off during the first act. At intermission we exchanged glances and then we three headed for the exit. Enough was enough.

I have really enjoyed this series in the past but this show was just bad.

So ... let’s move on to tonight’s entertainment event, which is ...

7:30==>OLD HATS - “Clown princes Bill Irwin and David Shiner reunite to make new kinds of craziness, joined by the marvelously askew singer-songwriter Nellie McKay.” (Off Broadway - discounted ticket)

This is playing at the new Signature Theatre which is a 1/2 block West of my apartment.

Yep, Billi Pod is definitely in the mood for this type of show.

As expected, the major story in all three of today’s papers is the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI

I think the diversity in the headlines is interesting ...

“I’M OUTTA HERE, GUYS! Pope gives God 2 weeks’ notice.” - front page of the New York Post

“POPE SHOCK. Benedict first man in 600 years to step down from papacy. Cardinal Dolan on short list of successors.” - front page of the Daily News.

POPE RESIGNS, WITH CHURCH AT CROSSROADS. Scandals and a Shift Away From Europe Pose Challenges.” - front page of the New York Times.

Only in New York, folks, only in New York.

And, yes ... baseball is back as spring training gets underway for the Yankees down at the Steinbrenner complex in Tampa, FL.

On this happy note will publish this and then finish up my leftover errands.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>3.51 miles (or, 7,675 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,130.06 miles

GO GATORS AND GO YANKEES!!
