Yesterday Turned Weird==>OMFG!!

Last night at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed and Ego Built, I was riding an entertainment high as The Yankees took a 1-0 lead into the top of 9th inning against the TAMPA BAY RAYS

Our post-Mo closer, David Robertson, was taking his warmup pitches. They had played “Sweet Home Alabama” as he left the bullpen for the mound. This was his second save opportunity in consecutive games.

I was reflecting on what an awesome day/night it had been for Billi Pod in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

At 1:00pm in the afternoon he had scored a comp. tix to the 2:00pm matinee performance of a show he had been longing to see, the romantic comedy LONELY, I’M NOT, starring Topher Grace. The show was playing at a theater only a short distance from his apartment so he had plenty of time to make the curtain-time.

The show was excellent.

Then, when it was time to head out to Yankee Stadium for the game he made the fastest trip EVER ... it was only 36 ... yes ... that’s right ... 36 ... minutes from the front door of his apartment to his seat in Section 228 of the stadium.

He had plenty of time before the first pitch to text with friends and family. The predicted rain never came. Nice.

He was also reflecting on the positive decision by President Obama to embrace same-sex marriage. About time!!

The game itself was very exciting ... a pitcher’s duel from the very first pitch. Interestingly, the couple who had knitted and read a book the last time Billi Pod saw them were at the game ... knitting and this time reading a book on an iPhone. Man ... how weird is this???

I have to admit that as the inning started I was mentally composing this anticipated blog, based on what an awesome day/night it had been ... we were 3 outs away from the win ...

Then ... OMFG!! ... ROBERTSON IMPLODED ... giving up 4 hits and 4 runs, including a towering 3-run homer by Matt Joyce. OMFG!! You could hear a pin drop in the stadium. And ... the Bronx Bomber’s bats died in the bottom of the 9th and The Rays won 4-1. OMFG!!

The ride back to Manhattan was extremely solemn, to put it mildly. Oh ... this time the trip from my seat at the stadium to my front door took an hour.

This was my 7th game of the season and their record is now: 4 wins, 3 losses. Not good.

The headlines in the local papers this morning were not kind ...

“SAVE IT AIN’T SO. Robertson Blows It as Mo’s Fill-in.” - NY Post

“NO WAY TO SAVE DAVE. Mo fill-in falters, loses in 9th.” - Daily News

Robertson Fails in Second Test as Closer, Giving Up 4 Runs. - Sports section of NY Times

Anyway ... moving on ... or perhaps back ... let’s have Billi Pod’s report card on ...

LONELY, I’M NOT, starring Topher Grace, a romantic comedy about a fallen Wall Street corporate “ninja” and a blind up-and-coming young businesswoman==>A.

As I mentioned above, I had been wanting to see this show and was so happy when this date suddenly showed up on one of my ticket services. I liked everything about this production, the writing, the acting, the staging and the sets.

And, it avoids the usual rom/com feel-good ending and that is a major plus in my opinion.

The show runs through the end of the month and I highly recommend it.

My entertainment event for this evening is ...

7:30==>TITLE AND DEED by Will Eno - “A nameless traveler from a far off place searches for connection and solace in an unknown country in this funny and sad meditation on mortality, loneliness, innocence, home, family, love, funerals, words, and the world.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket).

The show is in very early previews and is playing at the new Signature Theatre complex in my ‘hood. Will Eno’s stuff can be kinda weird ... so we will see ...

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
