Sunday’s Doubleheader Was A Disappointment

Well, my loyal and faithful readers, on this Back To Work Monday Billi Pod has to admit being in a somewhat somber mood, not helped a bit by the overcast skies in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. Why, you are no doubt asking? Well ... it goes like this ...

Billi Pod had scheduled a doubleheader yesterday that he anticipated as being another one of those AWESOME doubleheaders he has become used to ... well ... it just didn’t turn out that way ...

First, about the YANKEES/SEATTLE game, with Andy Pettitte making his back-from-retirement debut ... I think the following headlines in the local papers pretty much sums it up ...

“FALSE START. Andy anything but dandy in return as Yanks fall to Mariners 6-2. Pettitte earns two standing ovations but allows a pair of two-run homers, spoiling his first game in majors since October of 2010.” Daily News - backpage.

“ANDY RAGGEDY IN RETURN. Mariners spoil Pettitte’s first game.” NY Post - back page.

“Pettitte Basks in Cheers But Shows Some Rust.” - sports page of NY Times

The weather was great and the stadium was rocking ... then ... we lose as the Bronx Bombers bats go dead, yet again, with runner’s in scoring position.

We were not happy campers on the subway back into Manhattan, and that is putting it mildly.

Then ... there was the evening's entertainment event ...

SPRING’S AWAKENING, about teen-age sex in turn-of-the-century Vienna==>C+<==really expected much more and I think I am giving it the benefit of the doubt because of the young cast.

Even though I was thoroughly familiar with the plot line I found it difficult to follow and become involved with any of the characters. Also, the production was majorly hampered by an overly-loud AC unit, that did little if anything to cool the really decrepit Roy Arias theater on 43rd Street.

I would estimate that about 30% of the audience left at intermission. Of course, Billi Pod stuck it out through the entire 2:45 running time, expecting it to get better. It didn’t.

Oh well ... win some, lose some ... whatever ... moving on ...

This being a Monday, it is the usual errands and stuff day. Billi Pod is taking a break to finish this posting for you loyal and faithful readers out there in cyberspace.

Tonight’s entertainment event is ...

8:00==>INGENIUS 2012 FESTIVAL: Secrets Concealed/Secrets Revealed - “Five one-acts about family drama, political intrigue, high ideals, pop culture gone awry and funky film noir.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket)

This is playing down in The East Village at The Kraine Theatre, which is known for its offbeat theater events.

Oh ... The Yankees start a 2 game series against the Orioles in Baltimore. Can you believe it==>The Baltimore Orioles, the laughing stock of major league baseball for almost 15 years, are in first place in the AL East? Speaking of weird ...

OK ... still got things and stuff to do ...

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
