I want to warn you loyal and faithful readers that the major part of this posting will be a rant directed at the Yankees and at Billi Pod himself. OK ... you have been warned ...
All in not well in The Yankee Universe and that is putting it mildly.
Last night’s YANKEES/FUCKSOX game was one of the most unpleasant baseball experiences Billi Pod has endured in a long long time.
It began early on while in the smoldering Port Authority subway station waiting on the absent A train. For whatever reason the trains were running slow and they were jam-packed with commuters headed home from their downtown jobs. Very unpleasant.
When he arrived at Yankee Stadium at 6:45pm it was raining and there was a tarp on the field, as represented by the picture he posted on FaceBook. They kept announcing that the game would “probably be played.” The stadium was virtually full.
Billi Pod’s regular seat is in row 5, out in the elements, so he had to sneak his way into an empty seat underneath an overhang. As soon as he was seated the real seat-holder would arrive and the quest for shelter continued, over and over and over ...
8:00pm and it was still raining. Billi Pod was getting bored and concerned about the battery life for his iPhone. He had been playing solitaire to pass the time.
9:00pm and it was still raining. There had been lightning. The concert in Central Park had been canceled. At this point Billi Pod surmised ... even if it stopped raining right now, it would take at least an hour to get the field back into playing condition and no way would they start this game that late because Boston has to fly to Toronto for a night game tomorrow.
So, using his usually infallible deductive reasoning powers Billi Pod determined that it was time to Get The Hell Out Of Dodge and head back to PHC, thereby beating the crowds when the official postponement announcement was made. It was about 9:15pm when he entered the subway station. It was still raining.
The trip back took forever. It was 10:00pm when Billi Pod was back in PHC. He turned on the tube and discovered that ... OMFG ... the game would begin at 10:32pm, after a 3 hour 27 minute delay. WTF!!!
Oh well ... at least he would be dry.
The Yankees got off to a great start, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the lst inning, giving our ace CC Sabathia something to work with. He and Josh Beckett were pitching well and CC had a 2 run lead going into the top of the 7th inning. Things looked really good. Billi Pod was happy.
Then ... OMFG!! ... CC went into an AJ Burnett-like tailspin and imploded, giving up 7 ... yes that’s 7 runs in the 7th inning. WTF!! Billi Pod couldn’t believe what was happening before his very eyes. Had he died and was viewing this from purgatory? WTF!!
It was over ... just like that ... it was over. The final score was 3-8 and the game ended at 1:43am.
OK, now ... it gets worse ... because Billi Pod had made a bet with one of his AA buds that there was no way the FUCKSOX would sweep the series for the second consecutive time ... no way ... so ...
Well, folks ... the YANKEES SUCK ASS! posting on my FaceBook Wall and at the beginning of this blog is what I had to do for losing my bet with “X” a Red Sox fan since birth.
To add to all of the woes in Yankee-land ... Joba Chamberlain is gone for the rest of the season due to a torn ligament in his elbow. He will undergo Tommy John surgery, meaning he will be unavailable for at least 12 months ... Barf!!
Folks out there in the vast hinterlands ... we are in deep trouble, make no mistake about it ... deep deep trouble.
Oh, the Yankees did announce that anyone with a ticket to the game could use it for a free ticket to another game.
OK, enough of this ... thanks to those of you who have stuck with me this far.
Billi Pod’s entertainment event for tonight is ...
8:00==>NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC @ Avery Fisher Hall - works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and Schoenberg, with soprano Deborah Voight. (discounted TDF ticket).
BREAKING NEWS==>I was just able to score two excellent tickets to the Paul McCartney Concert at Yankee Stadium on July 15th. The offering was made to season ticket holders prior to sale to the general public on Monday.
In closing ... in response to several emails and texts ... yes ... Billi Pod will shortly post his predictions regarding the upcoming Tony Award Ceremony.
Damn ... not sure I feel any better after all of the Yankee venting ... oh well ...
GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
