Billi Pod’s Tony Predictions

The American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards Ceremony will be at The Beacon Theater tonight and will be covered live on CBS @ 8:00pm. It will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

This is the first time at the Beacon, which is much smaller than the past venue, Radio City Music Hall. The comments about the move are favorable because the smaller stage will be better for the performers.

If things go as expected, and in accordance with the theater buzz, it should be a major victory for THE BOOK OF MORMON, nominated in 14 categories. Billi Pod totally agrees. This show has pumped new life into the Broadway theater scene, make no mistake about it.

I loved the show when I saw it in previews.

The following are Billi Pod’s predictions for the “major categories.” I will not bore you with all of his predictions. These are “who will win” not “who should win.”

So, take a deep breath and take out your pencils to make your list ... here they are ...

Best Play: War Horse

Best Musical: The Book of Mormon

Best Revival of a Play: The Normal Heart

Best Revival of a Musical: Anything Goes

Leading Actor in a Play: Mark Rylance in Jerusalem

Leading Actress in a Play: Frances McDormand in Good People.

Leading Actor in a Musical: Norbert Leo Butz in Catch Me If You Can - Billi Pod would vote for Andrew Rannells in The Book of Mormon, if he had a vote.

Leading Actress in a Musical: Sutton Foster in Anything Goes.

When the evening is over Billi Pod predicts that THE BOOK OF MORMON will have won 11 Tony’s. You can bet the book on this my loyal and faithful readers.

Yesterday’s YANKEE/CLEVELAND was a difficult experience at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed Built.

There was misty rain during the entire game. It was also windy and cold - in the low 60s at game time. Come on people, this is June and it was in the low 60s? Majorly nasty to put it mildly. Luckily Billi Pod had dressed warmly, with a sweater (June???) and rain gear.

Billi Pod was there in his usual seat, section 212, row 5, seat 17, until the end. Thankfully, the Yanks won 4-0 behind stellar pitching from Bartolo Colon. But, and a major but ... Colon left the game in the 6th inning due to a strained hamstring and probably will go on the DL. Damn!! Another blow to our already questionable starting rotation.

The Yankees won on homers hit by Granderson, A-Rod and Teixeira.

The final game of the series is this 1:05pm this afternoon with Freddy Garcia on the mound. Billi Pod will probably stay in and watch it on the tube.

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
