Billi Pod Says==>See THE EYES OF BABYLON!!

Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s THE EYES OF BABYLON==>A+<== an excellent performance by writer/actor Jeff Key about his service in the Marine Corps, as a 34 year old gay man, in Iraq.

It is a moving, touching, thought-provoking piece of theater that has an ongoing resonance in today’s unsettled world.

As many of you know, my oldest grandson Alex Falletta is in the final stages of preparation for deployment to The Middle East. Because of this, I have to admit that I was almost emotionally overwhelmed by Key’s graphic descriptions of the mind-numbing day-to-day life in Iraq and its impact on the servicemen and the Iraqi people, especially the children.

I was still mentally processing all of this when I finally crashed at 2:00am.

I highly recommend this show, but be advised that it is very graphic and often very disturbing.

Man up and see it!!

Today is an entertainment doubleheader for Billi Pod ...

2:00==>4,000 MILES - After losing his best friend while they were on a cross-country bike trip, 21 year-old Leo seeks solace from his feisty 91 year-old grandmother in her West Village apartment. (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

Then ...

7:05==>YANKEES vs. TEXAS RANGERS @ Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed Built.

Yankee bats came alive last night and The Bombers won 12-4. Ace CC Sabathia gave a rather so-so performance.

Derek Jeter is on the 15-day DL due to his strained calf muscle. Barf!

I know you loyal and faithful readers out there in the vast hinterlands are breathlessly awaiting Billi Pod’s summary of the reviews of the opening night performance of SPIDER-MAN; TURN OFF THE DARK.

Well, basically, it got panned/trashed, although there were a couple of favorable reviews.

Billi Pod thinks that the following excerpt from the New York Times review, written by their theater critic Ben Brantley, pretty much sums it up ...

********

“There is something to be said for those dangerous flying objects-excuse me, I mean actors-that keep whizzing around the Foxwoods Theater, where the mega-expensive musical ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’ has entered the latest chapter of its fraught and anxious existence. After all, if you’re worried that somebody might fall on top of you from a great height, the odds are that you won’t nod out.

Those adrenaline-raising acrobatics are a necessary part of the lumpy package that is ‘Spider-Man,' which had its long-delayed official opening on Tuesday night, after 180-some preview performances. First seen and deplored by critics several months ago-when impatient journalists (including me) broke the media embargo for reviews as the show’s opening date kept sliding into a misty future-this singing comic book is no longer the ungodly, indecipherable mess it was in February. It’s just a bore.”

***********

Despite these negative reviews Billi Pod still predicts that the show will run for several years at or near capacity.

OMFG! It was 57º at 7:30am this morning==>where did the summer go? OMFG!

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
