Why I Was In The Bronx And Other Stuff, Too.

Wednesday==>OK my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... everything is OK with your favorite blogger up here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World ... he knows he didn’t post yesterday ... but ... have patience and you will find out why ...

Oh, come on ... get real ... all I asked for was a little bit of patience ... even those of you living out there in the hinterlands, wastelands and boondocks can afford to cut me a little slack ... OK?

So ... yesterday was a different kind of doubleheader starting with ...

A trip out to that foreign territory known as The Bronx. Yeah ... that’s right ... I was in da Bronx for something other than a Yankees game. What was it, I know you are anxiously asking your inner selves ...

Well, inner selves ... it went down like this ... at 9:30am I met my new friend, Marie Taylor, at the info booth at Grand Central Station. We caught a train up to The New York Botanical Garden, in The Bronx, where I saw, as her guest, THE HOLIDAY TRAIN SHOW, where little electric trains go whizzing by more than 140 NYC landmarks made out of acorns, twigs, bark, berries and leaves. All of which takes place in America's premier glasshouse, the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, out of the cold.

It was simply amazing. I took tons of pics, of course ... and these are just a few to share with you loyal and faithful readers and followers ...

When we finished the exhibit we then took a guided trolley trip around the Garden.

The whole thing took up several hours. When I got back to the warm and cozy confines of PHC I was in no mood to sit down in front of this ‘puter and write, plus, I also had some left over errands and chores to finish.

Some background ... Marie and her husband Lenny are my seat mates for one of my New York Philharmonic concert series. She is a real estate broker and he is a retired college professor.

Thank you Marie for the invite. It was so much fun.

Now ... moving on ... my entertainment event for the evening was ...

STARS OF DAVID - “A new musical that mixes comic, rueful and ruminative songs about how prominent Jews, including Gloria Steinem, Kenneth Cole, Fran Drescher, Aaron Sorkin, Leonard Nimoy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Joan Rivers, Tony Kushner and Norman Lear, approach Judaism.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

Billi Pod’s report card==>B+

It is very well-performed by the four person cast, who play multiple roles, and it is very thought-provoking. Since I am not Jewish, some of the references flew over my head but that wasn’t a major problem.

The show is playing at the DR2 Theatre in Union Square, has a running time of 75 minutes, without intermission, and runs through December 15th.

Sooooo ... these are the reasons I didn't post yesterday.

Moving on ...

Today is another doubleheader ... first is ...

2:00==>HANDLE WITH CARE - “The story of a young Israeli woman who reluctantly travels with her grandmother to America. Fate and hilarious circumstances bring together the young woman, who has little command of English, and a young American man with little command of romance. Is their inevitable love an accident or destiny generations in the making?” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This romantic comedy is in very early previews, is playing at the Westside Theatre on West 43rd Street, has a running time of 1:45, with intermission, and runs through February 23, 2014.

Then ... for the evening it is ...

8:00==>LOVE, LINDA - “An exploration of the life of Linda Lee Thomas, a Southern beauty who married and was a driving force behind legendary songwriter Cole Porter. Although Porter was gay, their loving companionship lasted through a 35 year marriage. (Off Broadway - discounted TDF ticket)

This one woman show, starring Stevie Holland, is playing at The York Theater (one of my favorite venues) on East 50th Street, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through January 5, 2014.

In closing ...

I ask you loyal and faithful readers and followers to join me in praying for the recovery of my dear dear BFF Ginger Flowers of Atlanta, GA.

Ginger’s health has steadily declined over the past year and she is now in the hospital with pneumonia and her condition is critical.

Thanks ...

Oh ... yesterday was also an awesome walking day ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.05 miles (or, 13,231 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/13==>529.69 miles (average 3.40 miles per day)
