THE JACKSONIAN==>B+

Monday==>On this Back-To-Work Monday here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, it is bright, sunny and very cold. At 10:00am it is 26º, wind chill 13º. Burrrrrrr!!

Not good because today is your favorite blogger’s errands and chores day and not only does he have a lot of regular stuff to do, but ... he also has some Christmas things that he has been putting off ... so ... looks like he will be braving the elements ... oh well ...

On a more positive note, I am happy to report to my loyal and faithful readers and followers that yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader was EXCELLENT ... starting with ...

HOLIDAY BRASS @ Avery Fisher Hall, The New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet, joined by The Lee Misiker Jazz Trio, perform a mix of traditional and contemporary holiday classics==>TOTALLY ENJOYABLE!!

It was a kinda downer to learn that both Philip Smith, Principal Trumpet, and Philip Myers, Principal Horn, would miss the performance due to illness. Their replacements did a good job, however.

The program, as expected, was a lot of fun and it was extremely well performed.

There were a lot of younger kids in the audience and, in my area, they were all very much into the program and very well-behaved.

I was somewhat surprised at the number of empty seats in the rear orchestra area. In previous years the concert has been a sellout.

And, in the name of fair and unbiased reporting, I have to admit that as much as I enjoyed the concert with the Jazz Trio, I really miss the old format involving The Canadian Brass. Wish they could resolve whatever was/is the problem and get back together for next year.

I was in a definite holiday mood when I left the concert to return to the warm and cozy confines of PHC for the usual pre-theater fruit and cheese plate before the second part of the entertainment doubleheader ...

THE JACKSONIAN, an explosive portrait of lost souls, set in a seedy motel in Jackson, Mississippi in 1964 that revolves around the night of a murder==>B+

The excellent cast, headed by Ed Harris as the out of control and downward spiraling dentist, Bill, makes this show, involving extremely unlikeable characters, bearable.

The story line is disturbing and creepy, with family dysfunction and tons of black humor but again, it is the acting that keeps the audience involved.

This was a special performance for The Actors Fund and, as might be expected, the full-house was packed with members of the theatre-industry.

It is playing at the Theatre Row Complex on West 42nd Street, has a running time of 1:25, without intermission, and runs through December 22nd.

Billi Pod says==>take a deep breath and then see this show.

Moving on ...

At the moment tonight is open but I am rather confident something will show up on one of my ticket services.

Time to get started on my errands and chores ... so ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>2.18 miles (or, 4,773 steps)

Total mileage for the week==>21.77 miles (average 3.11 miles per day)

Total mileage since 7/1/13==>561.27 miles (average 3.34 miles per day)

GO GATORS!!
