Good afternoon to all of my Worker Bee friends and loyal and faithful readers out there in the vast wilderness and hinterlands.
Finally caught LARRY CROWNE last night. For those of you not up-to-date on the current releases, the story line is ...
A romantic comedy about Larry (Tom Hanks) a superstore employee who is downsized because he never went to college. He enters a community college where one of his classes is taught by a very disenchanted and unhappy professor (Julia Roberts). They ultimately connect and his life changes forever.
Hanks also co-wrote and directed. It has received very tepid reviews but that didn’t matter because I like Tom Hanks, a lot. So ... I went with not the highest expectations.
Well, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised and found the show to be very well acted and a lot funnier than I anticipated. No, it’s not gut-busting funny but it is still warmly and charmingly funny. I thought that the supporting cast was excellent.
And, yes, this is indeed a date-movie but it also has a lot of “stuff” that guys can enjoy.
It is what it is ... a rom-com, so, if you are in the mood for a smile ... see it.
As previously posted Billi Pod stayed in for the afternoon to watch the final game of the Tampa Bay series. It was an excellent ball game and a pitcher’s duel between CC Sabathia and James Shields. CC gave a stellar performance, pitching a complete game, giving up only 4 hits, no runs and striking out 9. The Yankees won 1-0. It was CC's 13th win.
That was the good news from Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built.
The bad news==>Alex Rodriguez will undergo surgery today to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.
Bummer!! It is predicted that he will be sidelined 4-6 weeks. Eduardo Nunez will play third base until A-Rod returns.
On to other things and stuff ... like ... Billi Pod’s entertainment event for tonight ...
8:00==>BROADWAY WINNERS @ Town Hall - A concert featuring Broadway stars performing award-winning music created on and for the Great While Way.” (complimentary ticket)
These concerts are usually very well performed and well worth seeing.
Oh, one final thing to share... you know, when you write a blog you never really know who, if anyone, is reading it. Well, the other day I got the following email (which I have edited to protect the sender’s identity):
“Billi,

Wow!!
