God, I love living in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World!!
Yesterday was awesome!!! Yes ... yes ... yes ... I know ... I know ... there is “that” word again, but please my loyal and faithful readers withhold judgment until you have read this entire posting and then you decide if Billi Pod is being overly dramatic ... OK?
To begin with, the weather was terrific - sunny but also breezy. That was the first awesomeness.
The second awesomeness==>Billi Pod spent 3 hours wandering around lower Manhattan, specifically Ground Zero, The Financial District, and Battery Park. I have to report that there were hordes of tourists, individually and in groups, but that was OK because I expected it. I mean, after all, it is a holiday weekend and the weather was great.
Did tons of people watching, of course. The line for tickets for the boat ride to The Statue of Liberty was blocks long and that is no exaggeration.
After a couple of hours I took a bus (something Billi Pod rarely does) up to The Village and then walked the street fair on 6th Avenue. Then took the subway back to 42nd Street.
I estimate that I walked at least 3.5 miles during the downtown adventure.
When I got back to PHC had time to shower and then settle in to watch Game 5 of The Subway Series.
The third awesomeness==>Ah yes ... Bartolo Colon, in his first start since coming off the DL, pitched an excellent game. He went 6 innings, giving up no runs and only 5 hits. The Bronx Bombers won 5-2.
Derek Jeter’s replacement, Edwardo Nunez, has gone 7 for 8 in The Subway Series. Jeter is expected back on Monday and Nunez will return to the bench.
The final game of the series is at 1:00pm this afternoon with Freddy Garcia on the mound for the Yankees as we go for the sweep.
Billi Pod’s entertainment event last night was the fourth awesomeness and a fitting climax to an awesome day ...
UNNATURAL ACTS==>A+<==The ensemble cast gives a breathtaking performance in this fascinating story about Harvard University's ugly and hysterical purge of gay male students, conducted in 1920 by means of a secret court and then suppressed for more than 80 years.
The investigation was launched by the suicide of a student. Once the witch hunt begins, everything changes. It's every desperate man for himself. Snitching and naming names becomes a way to survive. Some do survive, but most of the guys under investigation are expelled.
This stylish production has a tremendous emotional impact as lives are forever changed due to their sexuality.
As an aside==>5 members of the 11-man cast are listed as co-authors of the play.
The run has been extended to July 17th and Billi Pod highly recommends this show ... SEE IT!!
So, my loyal and faithful readers out there in cyberspace, I hope you will agree with Billi Pod that Saturday was an AWESOME DAY ... but ...
I only report ... you decide.
Billi Pod’s entertainment event for tonight is ...
7:00==>ALL NEW PEOPLE - “It's the dead of winter and the summer vacation getaway of Long Beach Island, NJ is desolate. Charlie is 35, heartbroken and just wants some time away from the rest of the world, but his solitude is interrupted when a motley crew of misfits shows up. (Off Broadway - discounted TDF ticket).
The play is written by Zach Braff (Scrubs). It has received mixed buzz from early viewers.
