Weather/Little Mary Sunshine/New York Philharmonic/Fast Company

Thursday==>Just when we all thought that the Winter of 2014 was history the conditions took a serious turn for the worse this morning and The Weather Gods told us that==>It Ain’t Over 'Til It’s Over.

Meaning ... at 9:00am on this sunny morning here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, the temperature was only 21º, with wind chill down to .

And ... the wind is howling off the Hudson River, with gusts up to 40 mph. Burrrrrrrrrr!!

Oh, well ... nuttin’ I can do about it ... so ... let’s move on to Billi Pod report cards on yesteday’s excellent entertainment doubleheader ...

First, the Off Broadway show ...

LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE, the affectionate spoof that parodies old-fashioned operettas and musicals from the turn of the century==>B+

Yes, the show is fun, entertaining and well-performed by an extremely talented ensemble cast.

Catie Shelley as Mary and Devin Ilaw as Billy are excellent and Jacob L. Smith in the role of Captain Jim has an amazing voice.

And, yes, it is dated, but you know this going in, and, at 2:45, with intermission, it is a bit long ... however ... all of this fades away in the electricity generated by the performers on stage.

Billi Pod says==>it is worth seeing.

The show is part of Musicals Tonight! series, has a running time of 2:45, with intermission, is playing at the Theatre Row Complex on my West 42nd Street block, and runs through March 16th.

Then ... for the evening was a classical music concert ...

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Avery Fisher Hall - The program was: Two symphonies and an overture by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen==>beautiful, as usual

In yesterday’s posting I stated that I had no knowledge of Carl Nielsen and I was praying that it wasn’t going to be a evening of atonal dreck.

Well, I am happy to report that it wasn’t  ... instead, it was a evening of beautiful music that was totally emotionally involving.

I was seated next to my new friends Lenny and Marie Taylor and we had time for some much needed catching-up. Both of them enjoyed the concert as much as did I.

Yep, I left Avery Fisher Hall with a big smile on my face because I had been in the mood for some classical music.

Moving on to today ...

Tonight’s entertainment event is an Off Broadway show ...

7:00==>FAST COMPANY - “A comedy about a family of Asian American con artists on the trail of a million-dollar comic book, and everything is going wrong.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This New York premiere is playing at the Ensemble Studio Theatre on West 52nd Street and currently runs through April 6th. I have been unable to dredge up the running time.

OK, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, it is time to post this and then settle down in front of the tube to watch the 1:00pm spring training game between the Yankees and the Orioles, carried on YES.

Yesterday was another good walking day ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.05 miles (or, 8,869 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>231.58 miles (average 3.25 miles per day)

GO GATORS & GO YANKEES!!
