Suzie Threadgill/Newsical the Musical/Room at the End of the Hall/Satchmo at the Waldorf/Rosemary Barkett

Friday==>OK, let’s get right to the important stuff ... like ... Billi Pod’s time last night with Suzie Threadgill of Winter Haven, FL, who is in the Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, for a whirlwind 4-day adventure with her granddaughter.

I’m sure most of you loyal and faithful readers and followers will remember that Suzie is the wife of my longtime judicial colleague Ed Threadgill.

As planned, at 7:00pm I met Suzie in the lobby of her hotel, Le Parker Meridien on West 56th Street. We took the subway back to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and then walked to my apartment on West 42nd Street. It was cold.

Suzie was impressed with PHC and the awesome views of my Hell’s Kitchen ‘hood from the 41st floor.

Then it was time for our entertainment event, the Off Broadway show ...

NEWSICAL THE MUSICAL, the musical review that lampoons current events, newsmakers, celebrities, and politicians with songs and material that is updated on a regular basis==>A

As expected, it is profane, politically incorrect, extremely well-performed, and very very funny. We laughed a lot as did the rest of the audience.

This long-running show is playing at The Theatre Row Complex on my block, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and is selling tickets through June 1st.

When the show was over we caught a late night bite at the Theatre Row Diner, also on my block. We did a lot more catching up and that was nice.

When we finished we bundled up and then I escorted Suzie back to her hotel via the subway. It was even colder. It was almost 11:00pm when we got to her hotel, where we said our goodbyes. It had been a long long day/evening for her.

So ... Suzie ... it was great being with you. When you get back to Winter Haven tell everyone down there that I am still alive and well.

Hummmmmmm ... that assumes that there are people down there who still remember me ... hummmmmmm ... anyway ...

Moving on ...

Today is going to be an entertainment doubleheader for your favorite blogger, something rather unusual for a Friday, starting with a staged reading ...

3:00==>ROOM AT THE END OF THE HALL - “In a weathered lake home on Cape Cod two estranged twin brothers Doug and Malky have returned for the first time in years to bury the ashes of their recently deceased caretaker. But tonight, a simple act of closure unearths the haunting remains of a troubled past and an unsettling force that must be reckoned with before daybreak.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This is a “fully staged public workshop performance,” at the New York Theatre Workshop on E. 4th Street in the East Village, and has remaining performance dates of tonight @ 8:00pm and Saturday @ 2:00pm and 8:00pm.

My theater-buddies Dian Crystal aka My Lady, Marty Kosarik aka Whatever and Cathy will also be at the reading.

Then for the evening is an Off Broadway show in my ‘hood ...

8:00==>SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF - “It’s March 1971 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and LOUIS ARMSTRONG has just played one of the final performances of his extraordinary career. Unwinding backstage, he recounts events that transformed him into the world-famous Satchmo.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This one-man show is playing at the Westside Theatre on West 43rd Street, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs though August 3rd.

In closing ... a major shout-out to my soulmate Rosemary Barkett for the terrific article in the March 1st edition of The Florida Bar News regarding her appearance at the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society’s Annual Dinner, where she received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The link to the story is below. In a posting later today I will share the entire article.
