Arlington/Nicoletta/For Goodness Sake/Day of the Dog/Gators

Saturday==>Your favorite blogger here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, has a very busy schedule for today so we need to get things started with ...

Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s entertainment event, the Off Broadway show ...

ARLINGTON, about an Army wife who spends the day worrying and brooding about her husband and the consequences of an unnamed war==>B-

I thought this was to be a play with songs, but instead it is an opera. This show is well performed but it gets darker and darker, almost to the point of boredom, by the end of the 60 minute running time.

The performer, Alexandra Silber, and her pianist, Ben Moss, are excellent. It was the depressing story line that dragged it down for me. I can certainly understand why it received such mixed reviews.

I saw the show with my theater-buddy Dian Crystal aka My Lady and she gave it a B.

It is playing at the Vineyard Theatre on East 15th Street in the Union Square area, has a running time of only 60 minutes, without intermission, and its final performance is on March 23rd.

When the show was over we walked down to the the trendy pizza place, Nicoletta, at 10th Street and 2nd Avenue. It was about 9:30pm when we got there and the place was packed and we were told there would be a wait for a table.

My gut reaction was to find another place but, thankfully, My Lady wanted to stay, so we did ... and ... Thank God we did because our meal was terrific!!

We ordered the special ... a Chicago-style deep dish pizza and it was totally awesome. In My Lady’s words ... “they put a TON of fennel sausage and mozzarella cheese underneath that pomodoro sauce... Impressive.”

We each ate two slices and I brought the remaining two back with me to PHC.

Folks, as you know from prior postings, I highly recommend this place because the food is excellent, the scene is vibrant, the service is good and the staff is very friendly.

So ... My Lady ... it was great being with you.

Moving on ...

Today is a doubleheader that was booked before Billi Pod knew what the Gators NCAA basketball schedule was going to be ...

First is an Off Broadway show on my block ...

2:00==>FOR GOODNESS SAKE - “This 1922 musical that propelled Fred & Adele Astaire into stardom takes place at a weekend party at the Bourne Estate near Maidenhead, England, where ‘shenanigans’ abound.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket)

This play, which hasn’t been seen in NYC in 92 years, is playing at The Theatre Row Complex on my West 42nd Street block, is part of the Musical’s Tonight! series, has a running time of 2:45, with intermission, and runs through March 30th.

Yes, I now know that the Florida Gators will be playing Pittsburgh @ 12:15pm, carried on CBS and that they are only favored by 5-points.

As I said above, I had no idea what their schedule would be when I initially booked this doubleheader.

Luckily, my afternoon show is at the theater complex just steps away from my apartment so I should be able to watch most, if not all, of the game.

Anyway  ... for the evening is another Off Broadway show ...

8:30==>DAY OF THE DOG - “A South Florida couple obtains the services of a somewhat enigmatic Canine Relations Specialist in order to curb the violent behavior of their dog Carrot, but gradually learn that a dog is merely a reflection of the people who house him.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket)

This comedy is playing at the 59E59 Theater Complex on E. 59th Street, one of my favorite venues, has a running time of 2:10, with intermission, and runs through March 30th.

OK ... time to post this and then get ready for some basketball and my doubleheader.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.32 miles (or, 9,453 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>269.40 miles (average 3.37 miles per day)

GO GATORS & GO YANKEES!!
