Billi Pod is happy to report to you loyal and faithful readers out there in the vast wilderness and hinterlands that yesterday’s doubleheader was terrific, ending the weekend’s double-doubleheader on a very positive note.
First==>The Yankees beat the Orioles 4-2 behind yet another good outing from Freddy Garcia. Where would we be without Bartolo and Freddy?
The weather was nice the entire game, for a change.
Now, in the name of fair and unbiased reporting Billi Pod has to admit that what he is about to discuss next will have absolutely no meaning/interest unless you are a dyed-in-the wool Yankee fan, so ... if you want to scroll down ... have at it ... or ... read on ... it’s up to you ...
Here goes==>as you know, A-Rod has been out of the lineup due to a leg injury. Yesterday Girardi opted to give our second baseman, Robinson Cano, a half-day off by making him the designated hitter (DH). Well, in the 3rd inning The Captain, Derek Jeter, was hit on his right hand by a pitch and had to leave the game.
So, this meant that the Yankee infield in the middle of the game was:
lst base - Mark Teixeira
2nd base - Francisco Cervilli (normally a backup catcher)
Shortstop - Eduardo Nunez (who?)
3rd base - Eric Chavez (who?)
Yankee fans - at the beginning of the season no one, and I mean no one, in their wildest hallucinating dreams would have imagined a Yankee infield lineup like this ... no one ... and yet ... we still won the game.
The good news, nothing is broken so Jeter will be back in a couple of days.
As Billi Pod predicted, the Yankees made no trades, opting to stick with what they had rather than trade away top prospects. I totally agree with this decision.
On the way back from the game Billi Pod got off the subway at Columbus Circle and walked the rest of the way back to PHC, a mile.
Had time to shower, have the usual fruit and cheese plate and then it was time to head over to Midtown East for part two of the doubleheader ...
THE MAD SHOW @ York Theatre Musicals in Mufti Series. Billi Pod was in the mood for something funny and this show was spot-on. It was gut-busting funny even though some of the humor was very dated since it is set in 1966.
This was the final performance and the house was full and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
They really do nice work at the York Theatre, so a big thumbs up to my FaceBook friend Jim Morgan, who is their Artistic Director (and also a Florida Gator).
When I got back to PHC after the show I have to admit that I was just a bit tired. It had been a terrific day for Billi Pod in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.
Two doubleheaders back to back, in my humble opinion==>F**KING AWESOME!!
But, it is up to you to decided because ...
I report - you decide
As you loyal and faithful readers know, Monday is Billi Pod’s errands and to-do day.
Nothing has shown up on any of his theater services for today so he will probably catch a movie==>CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE with Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.
Have already compiled the stats for the month of July and will post them later. They are pretty awesome, too, but then you loyal and faithful readers already knew that, didn’t you?
To John Scott Reed aka Fabson==>WE GOTTCHA, BUT IN A NICE WAY!!
GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
