Wednesday==>Happy Hump Day to all of my Worker Bee friends out there in the morass known as cyberspace.
Let’s get started with Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s superb concert at Carnegie Hall ...
CRESCENT SUPER BAND CONCERT, 3 mega-talented swing/jazz bands composed entirely of teenagers from Utah==>totally enjoyable and totally AMAZING!!!
The first part of the program was the Voodoo Orchestra, performing jump swing from the 30s and 40s, and then La Onda Caribeña, performing authentic Latin jazz. Both groups were outstanding, as were the vocalists.
The second half of the program was devoted to the award-winning Crescent Super Band and they were simply amazing, playing a variety of jazz standards plus 4 World Premieres. For me the highlight was the West Side Story Medley.
Folks, the performance level of this group is awe-inspiring. I just couldn’t believe that all of the band members are in the 15-18 year age range. You could feel the energy and excitement that swept over the Hall. Not joking, you really could.
Renowned jazz artists David Sanborn and Wayne Bergergon also performed with the group(s).
My comp. seat was excellent, in the center orchestra (called parquet) row V. I would estimate that the house was about 85% full and everyone was very much into the performances.
The concert was over at 10:00pm and I left the Hall with a huge smile on my face as I walked back to PHC. This has to rank near the top of this year’s entertainment events.
Tonight’s entertainment event is a show downtown in The West Village ...
8:00==>BEYOND WORDS - “Written and performed by Bill Bowers, it is set against the backdrop of small town America and takes us on a journey from boyhood to manhood and considers the lessons learned along the way.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
This is playing at The Barrow Street Theatre down in The West Village and is part of the SoloNOVA Arts Festival.
Moving on to a bit of sports ...
Last night The Yankees lost in extra innings to The Orioles, 3-2, on a walkoff homer from Nate McLouth. Phil Hughes rebounded with 6-innings of two-run ball and departed with the score tied 2-2.
Tonight @ 7:05pm from Camden Yards it will be game 3, with Hiroki Kuroda (6-2) on the mound for The Bronx Bombers vs. Jason Hammel (5-2) for The Birds. It should be a very interesting game.
The Yankees remain on top of the AL East, leading the Boston FuckSox by one game.
Moving on some more ...
It is a kinda overcast day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World - 70º @ 12:30pm.
I am overdue for my routine finger-prick session with my cardiologist, whose office is in the far Eastside, so I will post this, then subway over there. Will walk back afterwards, a distance of about 2 miles.
Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.07 miles (or, 13,282 steps)
Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,520.14 miles
GO YANKEES!!

Sadly, I missed the Crescent Super Band concert at Carnegie. Absolutely wished I could have been there. But I heard that Caleb Chapman's Crescent Super Band is recording a new album called "Don't Look Down." You can pre-order a copy on their Kickstarter. Plus there's tons of other exclusive rewards for backers. I reserved a seat at the one-time concert for the album. Go here to support them - http://kck.st/11FfMyz
