THE WANKIES GET SWEPT!!

Friday==>TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE!! The lowly Mets won last night’s final game of the 4-game Subway Series by a score of 3-1 to sweep the Series. TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE!!

Folks, I don’t believe anyone, and I mean anyone, could have predicted this outcome.

Except for the virtually meaningless runs in the 9-4 loss The Wankies scored only 1 run in each of the other games, highlighting a major flaw in this team now composed of rookies and fill-in players.

In the name of fair and unbiased reporting your favorite blogger feels it is necessary to share with you loyal and faithful readers and followers the following headlines from today’s papers ...

“BROOM TOWN - Amazin’s stun Yanks, sweep Subway Series.” - back page of The New York Post

“BROOM TOWN - Mets drop Bombers again, sweep Subway Series for first time.” - back page of The Daily News

“Where No Mets Have Gone Before - Yanks Swept for First Time In 17 Subway Series.” - front page of the Sports Section of The New York Times

The only good thing about the game was that I wasn’t in front of the tube watching the catastrophe conclude.

Yes ... Thank God ...  instead I was at a very interesting Off Broadway show at Theatre Row on my block ...

DOJOJI: The Man Inside the Bell, the  dance-drama re-imagining of a Japanese ancient legend==>B+

It is well-performed, interesting but a bit confusing.

The story line is==>A young monk, the emperor’s son Anchin falls for an innkeeper’s daughter while on his way to the Dojoji Temple. When he leaves her, she transforms herself into a serpent demon. Spurred by her wrath, she pursues Anchin through the centuries to contemporary Tokyo.

It has a rather short running time, 90 minutes with intermission, and runs through June 9th. It is worth seeing if you want something a bit different.

Moving on to tonight’s entertainment event ...

7:30==>THE UNAVOIDABLE DISAPPEARANCE OF TOM DURNIN - “Tom Durnin did the time for his white-collar crime. Now, he’s determined to win back the respect he believes he deserves - even if that means ripping apart the new life his family has so carefully put together in his absence.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This show is in very early previews and certainly sounds interesting. At the theater I hope to meet up with a couple of my theater-buddies, Dian Crystal aka My Lady and Mary Maggio.

Well ... I guess I have to mention that tonight The Boston FuckSox come into Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, for a 3-game series.

The FuckSox now lead the AL East by 2-games.

On the mound for The Wankies will be our struggling ace CC Sabathia (4-4) vs. Jon Lester (6-1) the ace of The FuckSox staff.

Hopefully, Teixeira and Youkilis will get some playing time during the series

Yesterday was an excellent walking day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. It was in the low 90s and is about the same for today.

It is now 1:30pm so I will post this and then do a bit of walking and wandering now that the Sun has moved enough for the shadows to begin to  develop. That way I can minimize exposure to the rays.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.50 miles (or, 14,210 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,561.12 miles

NIGHTMARE IN THE BRONX

Thursday==>Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, it was a total NIGHTMARE last night out at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built.

The Mets kicked our butt again, winning 9-4, before a crowd of 43,861. At one point they had a 8-0 lead. We were embarrassingly awful in every aspect of the game. I found myself wondering if I had died and was in purgatory. I fled after 7 innings.

One positive note ... as I was entering The Stadium I ran into my friend Eric Sherr and that was great. Back in 2011 Eric and his buddies (all full-season ticket holders) and I were seated together and we struck up a friendship. Last season, when I changed my seat location to the other side of the field, I lost contact with them. This season they also changed seat locations so I couldn’t find them. So ... it was great to see Eric and make contact again. His new seat location is just one section over from where I am. Nice.

Tonight the Mets go for the sweep. It will be Vidal Nuno (1-1) on the mound for The Wankies vs. Dillon Gee (2-6) for The Mets.

When I got back to PHC last night I immediately went online and booked an entertainment event for tonight, something very very different ...

7:30==>DOJOJI: The Man Inside the Bell - “A dance-drama re-imagining of a Japanese ancient legend - a story of eternal love, destiny and the power of transformation.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

It is playing at the Theatre Row Complex on my block.

Another positive note about yesterday - the nice weather let me get in some decent walking mileage. I subwayed up to the Upper Westside and then walked and wandered in the 86th Street ‘hood. I find this area to be totally fascinating with all of the majestic brownstones and upscale apartment buildings. Lots of trees so plenty of shade and that is nice too.

In fact, the weather is so pleasant right now, at 12:30pm, that I need to post this and then head back up to the Upper Westside for some more walking and wandering ... so ...

CONGRATULATIONS to my dear dear friend Ginger Flowers of Atlanta, GA, who is celebrating an awesome Birthday today. I am soooooooooo proud of you Ginger .... so very very proud. Keep on keeping on.

As many of you know, Ginger and I dated back in High School and we have remained close ever since.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.70 miles (or, 14,647 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,554.62 miles

Tuesday==>Yucky Day!!

Wednesday==>Well, my loyal and faithful readers and followers out there in the wilderness, boondocks and hinterlands ... yesterday was basically a yucky day for your favorite blogger here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

Yeah ... it lightly rained for most of the day and into the evening, when it got heavier, resulting in a 91-minute delay of the YANKEES/METS game out at Citi Field.

I did virtually nothing yesterday, other than a visit to The Food Emporium across the street from my apartment. Otherwise I just wandered restlessly around PHC until it was time for the game to start, and then came the rain delay. Yuck!!

When the game finally out underway it was the pitchers duel that everyone expected, Hiroki Kuroda for the Yankees vs. rising star Matt Harvey for the Mets. Both pitchers were terrific.

The Yankees had a 1-0 lead going into the bottom on the 9th and enter The Sandman, our closer Mariano Rivera. It should have been over, right? Wrong!

Mo blew his first 2013 save and then gave up the winning run and the Mets won 2-1. WTF???

Not a nice way to end a yucky day. Oh well ...

So ... what about tonight? Well ... I will head out to Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, for the 7:05pm game against The Mets, game #3 of the 4-game Subway Series. The game is part of my partial season ticket package.

The weather is kinda iffy with the forecast of a 30% chance of rain at game time.

It will be David Phelps (3-2) on the mound for The Bronx Bombers vs. Jeremy Hefner (0-5) for The Mets.

Moving on ...

I need to share that I am seriously rethinking my previously announced decision to stay in the rest of the week to watch baseball, Mets and then The Boston FuckSox. Stay tuned.

Yesterday’s nasty weather seriously curtailed my walking and if I have any chance of reaching 1,700 miles by July lst I will have to record some major mileage over the next several days ... so ... will post this and head out. Will also head out to The Stadium a bit early for some walking time inside The House That Greed And Ego Built.

Man==>what a totally boring posting!! Sorry!!

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>1.29 miles (or, 2,829 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,547.92 miles

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Tuesday==>OK my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... I know you are all anxiously asking your inner selves ... selves ... what is he talking about with this “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” crap?

Well ... inner selves ... this is what your favorite blogger means ... listen up ... pay attention ... and don’t be judgmental ... OK ... repeat ... don’t be judgmental ...

As you loyal and faithful readers and followers know, two things loomed large on Billi Pod’s horizon yesterday in the Big Apple, The Greatest City In the World ... the first being a 7:00pm classical music concert at Avery Fisher Hall by the renowned DISTINGUISHED CONCERT ORCHESTRA & CONCERT SINGERS and the second being ... game one of the YANKEES/METS Subway Series @ 7:10pm from Citi Field.

At 6:00pm, dressed appropriately, he headed out to Lincoln Center and picked up his comp. ticket and the seat was excellent, midway in the center orchestra section. It was 6:30pm and the game at Citi Field started at 7:10pm.

Suddenly the desire to see the baseball game totally overwhelmed me and I knew that I really had to watch it. When I had entered Avery Fisher Hall I noticed an older guy standing in front of the entrance with a sign that said ... “Extra Ticket, Please!” He was still there.

So, I went up to him and handed him the ticket and he replied with a big smile and “Thank you so so much, my friend.” Ahhhhh yes ... it was Billi Pod’s good deed of the day.

I then loosened up my long-sleeved black shirt and began the walk back to the apartment while listening to the pre-game stuff on my new Walkman. Was back in PHC in plenty of time for the first pitch.

Well ... as those of you loyal and faithful readers and followers who are sports fans know ... it was a pitcher’s duel and a nail biter from the first pitch.

Dammit, we couldn’t get crucial hits and ended up losing 2-1. My punishment, for sure.

The score would have been substantially worse had not Brett Gardner made an incredible catch to rob, and I do mean rob, Daniel Murphy of a HR in the 6th inning. However, Murphy got his revenge in the bottom of the 8th by knocking in what turned out to be the winning run.

Yeah ... we lost ... but I am glad I made the decision to watch the game ... so there ...

Tonight @ 7:10pm is game 2 of the series. On the mound for The Bronx Bombers will be Hiroki Kuroda (6-3) vs. Matt Harvey (5-0) for The Mets. This is the best pitching match-up of the series.

And, of course, I will be in front of the tube, this time as previously planned.

On a positive note ... yesterday I got a lot of things and stuff done, including some excellent walking time. Still have a few errands to do, including the weekly visit to the Food Emporium, across the street from PHC, to take advantage of the extra 5% Senior Discount ... so ... will post this and get at it.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.50 miles (or, 14,212 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,546.63 miles

BULL==>A

Monday==>It is a beautiful day here in the Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World - sunny and virtually cloudless with a temperature of a balmy 70º @ noon.

I earlier posted about Memorial Day, so we will begin this posting with Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s excellent entertainment event, an Off Broadway show ...

BULL, two jobs and three candidates. A razor sharp play about office politics, set in a boxing ring==>A

This was 55 minutes of totally involving theater. The acting was amazing as the performers faced each other on a boxing ring-like stage that comes with a water cooler. The water cooler plays an important role in the climatic final scene.

Some of the audience is seated and some, like moi, had standing room tickets surrounding the stage. The house was full and we were involved from the opening moments until the end.

The show runs through June 1 and Billi Pod urges you to see it before it closes.

Tonight’s entertainment event is a classical music concert ...

7:00==>DISTINGUISHED CONCERT ORCHESTRA & CONCERT SINGERS @ Avery Fisher Hall - “Requiems for the Brave.” (complimentary ticket)

Also featured on the program will be The Patriot Brass Ensemble.

I have been privileged to see the Orchestra and Chorus perform several times this year and they are wonderful. The Chorus is 200+ strong and the stage at Avery Fisher Hall will be totally filled with singers and musicians.

Looking forward to it.

Now ... how about a bit of sports for my buddy Marty aka What’s His Name? ...

Yesterday the Bronx Bombers and our titular ace, CC Sabathia, got ass-kicked, 8-1, by the Tampa Bay Rays down at that disgrace known as Tropicana Field.

 Rays pitcher Alex Cobb totally dominated the Wankies through 8-innings.

This was the fifth straight lackluster performance from CC and if he doesn’t get his shit together soon, we could be in deep dodo. Jus sayin ...

Tonight @ 7:10pm is the first game of the 4-game Subway Series against the Mets, 2-games at Citi Field and then 2-games at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built.

On the mound for The Bronx Bombers will be Phil Hughes (2-3) vs. Jon Niese (3-5) for the Mets.

The season couldn’t be more different for the two teams. The Yankees (.612) lead the AL East while The Mets (.383) are in next-to-last place in the NL East, trailing Atlanta by 11 games.

So==>Bring it on!!

Will close out this posting with some expanded walking stats ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.53 miles (or, 9,915 steps)

Total mileage for week==>34.83 miles (average 4.98 miles per day)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,540.13 miles (average 4.67 miles per day)

Mileage remaining to reach 1,700 miles by 7/1/13==>159.87 miles

WE MUST NEVER EVER FORGET!!

MEMORIAL DAY==>WE MUST NEVER EVER FORGET the sacrifices made by brave men and women to protect and preserve this great Country of ours!!

I am extremely proud that my father, William Sr., served in the Navy during World War II, that I, William Jr., served in the Army as a member of the Counter-Intelligence Corps, and that, as you know, my oldest grandson, Alex Falletta aka Army Guy, an Apache helicopter pilot, returned home safely last year after a tour of duty in Iraq and then Kuwait.
