The Good and the True - Bastards of Strindberg - Fault Lines - The Yankees

Thursday==>We will get this beautiful Thursday morning started with Billi Pod’s report card on yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader ... starting with ... first ...

The Off Broadway show ...

THE GOOD AND THE TRUE - “The story of the actress Hana Pravda and the athlete Milos Dobry who both endured impossible challenges of being born Jewish in 1920s Europe. Both survived the extraordinary experience of living through the attempted extermination of their race in WWII==>A

The format for this emotionally involving drama is two alternating monologues from the two extremely talented actors, Isobel Pravda as the actress Hana Pravda (Isobel is her real granddaughter) and Saul Reichlin as Milos Dobry, as they trace the horror(s) of being Jewish in Czechoslovakia and surviving The Holocaust and the notorious death-camp known as Auschwitz. The two characters never meet but their stories are interlocked.

The house for this performance was full and everyone seemed to be in total identification with the horrors that were being vividly described on stage.

Yes, when it was over I felt totally emotionally drained.

Billi Pod says==>see this show if you can.

This heavy drama has received favorable reviews, is playing at the DR2 Theatre on East 15th Street in Union Square, has a running time of 1:20, without intermission, and runs through September 24th.

When the show was over I wasn’t in the mood to walk back to the apartment, as originally planned, so I subwayed instead.

Finished my errands and chores list, had my usual pre-theatre fruit and cheese plate and then it was time for the second half of my entertainment doubleheader ...

BASTARDS OF STRINDBERG, the world-premier of four new short plays inspired by August Strindberg’s iconic “Miss Julie,” written by four of the most exciting contemporary American and Swedish playwrights==>B-

Basically the themes for each of the playlets is the relationship(s) between the moneyed aristocracy and the less fortunates, including servants. Actually, this gets kinda old by the time the 4th work starts.

However, the ensemble cast is excellent as is the staging.

Billi Pod says==>it is worth seeing for the acting and staging alone.

This show is in previews, is playing at The Theatre Row Complex on my West 42nd Street block, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through September 21st.

Moving on to today ...

Tonight’s entertainment event is an Off Broadway show ...

8:00==>FAULT LINES - “Jim and Bill get together to celebrate Bill's thirty-ninth birthday. When they meet Joe, who's slightly older and odder, their boys' night out quickly turns sour. Whole Foods, mini-hot dogs and Edie Brickell abound as together they attempt to delineate loyalty, conviction and betrayal.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This revival of Stephen Belber’s well-received 2007 play is playing at the TBG Theater on West 36th Street, has a running time of 1:25, without intermission, and runs through September 20th.

Now ... on to the sports scene, briefly ...

Last night out at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, The Yankees (71-66) beat the loathsome Boston FuckSox (61-78) 5-1 on Brian McCann’s 4-hit, 3-RBI performance and another stellar outing from Hiroki Kuroda.

The win keeps us, technically, in the race for the second wild-card slot.

Tonight at 7:05pm will be the final game of the 3-game series. On the mound for The Yankees will be Chris Capuano (2-3) vs. Brandon Workman (1-8) for The FuckSox.

So ... my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... time to post this and then get to work on the tedious job of getting the bachelor-pad known as PHC in shape for the highly anticipated arrival of my dear friend Sandy Mullon of Anna Maria, FL, on next Tuesday.

Hold on ... yes ... I know ... I know ... she doesn’t get here until Tuesday ... but ... remember ... this is a bachelor-pad ... meaning ... well ... you guys understand what I’m talking about ... and you gals have no clue ... and you never will ... so ... anyway ... time to get started ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.63 miles (or, 10,117 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>994.94 miles (average 4.04 miles per day)

GO YANKEES !! GO GATORS!!
