The Fatal Weakness - Upcoming Doubleheader - Hal & Hank Steinbrenner WTF???

Saturday==>Your favorite blogger is happy to report to his loyal and faithful readers and followers that it is a beautiful early Fall day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

At 10:30am it is 73ยบ with azure blue skies, just a few puffy clouds, and a nice breeze coming off the Hudson River. The high is forecast to be in the low 80s with no rain. Man, I will take this with a big Thank You to the Weather Gods.

On this happy note we will get this posting started because Billi Pod has scheduled for today the first of two back-to-back entertainment doubleheaders. So ...

Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show ...

THE FATAL WEAKNESS, after 28 years of marriage, Ollie Espenshade is still an incurable romantic (her fatal weakness). Perhaps discovering that her husband is a lying cheat will cure her==>B

When I left the theater last night I had mentally given the show a C+ because I had found the story line to be contrived and the ending totally unbelievable. The steps taken to discover if the husband was in fact “cheating” are so ridiculous and convoluted that it would be too much to swallow even in a screwball comedy. But ...

As I have processed it overnight I have concluded that the acting, staging and sets support a higher grade, thus it now receives a B from Billi Pod.

The length of the show, 2:30, with three acts and two intermissions, wasn’t a downer because I knew this going in.

The 6-person cast is stellar, especially: Kristin Griffith as Ollie; Sean Patrick Hopkins as Vernon, the son-in-law; and, Patricia Kilgarriff as Anna, the maid.

So ... Billi Pod says==>have a double espresso and then see this show.

This show, set in 1946, has received mixed reviews, is playing at The Mint Theatre on West 43rd Street, has a running time of 2:30, with two intermissions, and runs through October 26th.

Now ... moving on to today’s entertainment doubleheader ...

First will be an Off Broadway show ...

4:45==>HEREAFTER MUSICAL - “Three women have come together at the home of world renowned psychic Jason Richards, desperate to make contact with their loved ones who have passed. Unbeknownst to them, the spirits materialize during the reading and we discover that, like the living, they are also having a great deal of difficulty moving on.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

Yeah, that is the right time ... it ain’t a typo.

I am seeing this show with my theatre-buddies Dian Crystal aka My Lady, Marty Kosarik aka Whatever, and his boyfriend, Robert.

This musical is playing at The Snapple Theater at Broadway and West 50th Street, has a running time of 2:20, with intermission, and runs on Saturday afternoons through December 27th.

When the show is over I will race down to 42nd Street for the second part of my doubleheader, another Off Broadway show ...

8:00==>MONEY GRUBBIN’ WHORES - “In this new dark comedy, NYC union plumber Matt and his gorgeous Israeli wife Aviva are getting divorced. The back-room deal is mediated by Matt’s best friend Frankie, and Aviva’s cousin Moshe. As the couple battles it out through cultural differences, mixed messages, and high passions, one question remains…what is the price of love?” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This show is playing at The Theatre Row Complex on my West 42nd Street block, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through October 19th.

Moving on to the sports scene ... and ... hold on ... yes ... I know that I promised I wasn’t going to post about The Yankees for the remainder of the 2014 season ... but ... and a huge but ...

In today’s papers it was revealed that neither Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankee managing general partner, nor his brother Hank, who is the general partner/co-chairperson, were at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, Thursday night for Derek Jeter’s final home game. WTF?

The only member of the Steinbrenner family in attendance was Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal. WTF??

As one baseball official said: “I can’t imagine any owner in baseball who wouldn’t be on hand for the last home game of his team’s greatest player.” WTF???

This is totally disgraceful. They MUST step forward and explain what appears to be a grievous error. WTF????

So ... on this happy note will close this out and then settle in to watch a bit of college football before my doubleheader starts.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>2.22 miles (or, 4,872 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>1,099.59 miles (average 4.09 miles per day)

GO GATORS!! GO YANKEES!!
