Sunday==>Excellent Entertainment Doubleheader.

Monday==>It is another cold but beautiful day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. At noon it is 29º, wind chill 21º, with azure blue skies and a few puffy clouds.

But ... dammit ... the snow returns around 3:00am tonight, turning into rain showers and wet snow into Tuesday afternoon. Dammit ... will it ever end?

Anyway ... let’s move on to Billi Pod’s report cards on yesterday’s stellar entertainment doubleheader ...

Starting with the Off Broadway show ...

RIDING THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, Billy Hayes recounts his time in a Turkish prison, were he was serving a sentence of 30 years for drug smuggling, and his daring escape==>A

This one-man show is very emotional, thought-provoking and well-performed by Hayes.

The crucial part of the story is the fact that his original sentence was 5 years, which he finally accepted as his fate for being young and stupid, but, when he was within 60 days of completing the sentence the Turkish High Court inexplicably re-sentenced him to 30 years. This is when he determined to attempt to escape.

When the 1:10 running time, without intermission, is over there is a 15-minute “Q&A” session, which was very informative.

Billi Pod says==>see this show if you can and stay for the Q&A session.

This show is playing at The Theatre at St. Luke’s on West 46th Street, has a running time of 1:10, without intermission, and runs through March 23rd.

When the show was over I did a walk and wander session, even though it was pretty cold, and then came back to PHC for my usual pre-theatre snack, a fruit and cheese plate.

The second half of Billi Pod’s doubleheader was a classical music concert at Carnegie Hall ...

MASTERWORKS FESTIVAL CHORUS AND ORCHESTRA, which was stellar, especially Schubert’s Mass No. 2.

My discounted TDF seat was excellent, row F, seat 3, in the orchestra and ... tada ... I was seated next to my theatre-buddy Julie Miller and that was nice. We had time before the concert and at intermission to do some much needed catching up.

The Masterworks Festival Chorus was augmented by choral groups, High School and College, from around the country.

Seated to my left was a very nice lady from San Diego, CA. Her daughter, a HS Senior, was performing with the Chorus. Mom’s excitement made the concert, for me, even more enjoyable.

Yes, I left the concert with a big smile on my face.

It was 11:00pm when I opened the door to the warm and cozy confines of PHC. Yes, I have to admit to being a bit tired but I was also very happy with the results of yet another excellent entertainment doubleheader here in The Big Apple.

Moving on to today ... which will be another classical music concert at Carnegie Hall ...

7:00==>DISTINGUISHED CONCERTS ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS @ Carnegie Hall - “A Celebration of Shawnee Press” - The program is: Works by Paul Simon, Irving Berlin, Bill Withers and others.
(complimentary ticket)

This concert is being held in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Shawnee Press, one of the largest publishers of choral and instrumental music in the World.

Your favorite blogger will end the day in front of the tube for the first performance of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” at 12:00am on NBC. The starting time has been pushed back 30-minutes due to coverage of the Winter Olympic Games.

Jimmy’s guests for his premiere show will be Will Smith and U2.

Really looking forward to this and I wish him well.

As a side note==>Dian Crystal aka My Lady has been assigned the task of scoring us tickets to a future Fallon show. Yes ... do it My Lady ... I know you can.

Yesterday was also an excellent walking day for Billi Pod. He was able to do some extra walking before and after his matinee show and then before his Carnegie Hall concert ... so ...

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>5.54 miles (or, 12,118 steps)

Total mileage for the week==>24.11 miles (average 3.44 miles per day)

Total mileage for 2014==>141.53 miles (average 3.01 miles per day)
