Saturday==>A Musical Comedy Doubleheader.

Saturday==>Wow!! The warmest weather in a while up here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. At 10:30am it is 43º. Nice!

The warmer weather will only add to the madness and chaos that is engulfing Midtown Manhattan as Super Bowl fever is everywhere.

No ... don’t even think about it ... no way am I going to get into that mess ... no way ... so ... moving on ...

Today is going to be an interesting doubleheader for your favorite blogger, two Off Broadway musical comedies, so ... let’s get started with ...

Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show at The York Theater ...

MUSICALS IN MUFTI: DRAGONS, the musical fantasy, with book, music, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, about a knight who rescues a damsel in distress from a dragon and what happens thereafter==>A

The show is very entertaining and very well performed by a talented ensemble cast.

Bray Wilkins at Lancelot, the Dragon slayer, is excellent as are Ed Dixon, the Dragon, and William Youmans, the Mayor.

The underlying theme is basically==>be careful that you don’t replace a deposed tyrant with another tyrant.

I am really surprised that the show hasn’t been performed more because it is very entertaining and the songs and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick are outstanding.

As a side note, I was seated in the same row with Harnick and his family. When the show was over he joined the cast on stage for a roaring curtain call.

Billi Pod says==>see this show if you possibly can.

It is playing at The York Theatre @ The Citigroup Center on East 54th Street, has a running time of 2:30, with intermission, and has remaining performance dates of today @ 2:30pm & 8:00pm; and, Sunday @ 2:30pm & 7:30pm.

Once again, kudos to James Morgan (Go Gators!) and his staff for another job well done.

Moving on ...

As I mentioned above, today is going to be a musical comedy entertainment doubleheader, starting with ...

3:00==>GREED: A Musical For Our Times - “What do Jamie Dimon, Pope Francis, Lance Armstrong, Chico Marx, and A-Rod all have in common? They share the stage in this new musical whose exploits range from the outrageous Ponzi scheme of 1910 to today's subtle sales pitches of retirement planners and mortgage bundlers.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

In the cast is Stephanie D'Abruzzo, best known for her Tony and Drama Desk nominated performances originating the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut both off and on Broadway in “Avenue Q.”

This show is playing at The Playroom Theatre on West 46th Street, has a running time of 1:20, without intermission, and runs through February 5th.

As you might remember, back on January 20th I had booked this show but at the last minute the producer withdrew the comp. tix for that performance.

The show has received basically very favorable reviews so I am glad I am finally getting to see it before it closes.

The second show is ...

8:00==>CUFF ME! A Fifty Shades of Grey Musical Parody - “The cast of four belt out hilarious parodies of popular hit songs from Britney Spears, Madonna, and others.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This show opened back on March 27, 2013, is playing at The Actors Temple Theatre on West 47th, has a running time of 1:25, without intermission, and is running through March 27th.

Yeah ... I hope you loyal and faithful readers and followers agree with me that today certainly looks interesting.

I will close this posting with a ...
