DIZZY MISS LIZZIE’S ROADSIDE REVUE PRESENTS “BRONTES”==>Thumbs Up!!

Friday==>It is overcast today in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. The temperature @ 12:30pm is an agreeable 75º with a nice breeze coming off of the Hudson River. Rain is in the forecast for later in the afternoon and into the evening.

This is pretty much the forecast for the weekend, too. That’s OK with your favorite blogger because all of his scheduled entertainment events are in his immediate Hell’s Kitchen ‘hood.

In response to several texts and emails I will get this posting underway with some additional information on the New York Musical Festival (NYMF), that is running from July 8th through July 28th ...

First of all, and perhaps most important ... I love musical theatre ... with a passion, as I think most of you know.

All of the performances are at venues within a block and a half of PHC and that is a major change from previous years.

The shows that are scheduled were pre-selected/screened and come from all around the country, not just NYC.

Information regarding each show, story line, cast, etc, is in printed material and online.

Tickets for most of the performances are $25, although some are being offered at a discount ($10.00 + $4.50 = $14.50) through TheaterMania, one of co-sponsors of the Festival.

Most of the shows have 6 performance dates spread though the Festival.

The performers are all highly professional and trained musicians/actors/performers.

These are full performances, with sets, props, dancing etc, and without scripts.

There are also some Developmental Readings scheduled.

And ... most important to your favorite blogger ... he only selects shows that he thinks he will like based on the advance buzz and/or press materials.

So ... I hope this gives you loyal and faithful readers and followers the information you desired.

This ... then ... will lead us to Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s NYMF show ...

DIZZY MISS LIZZIE’S ROADSIDE REVUE PRESENTS “BRONTES,” the rock-music show that upends everything you thought you knew about the authors of Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights==>THUMBS UP!!

It has outstanding rock music and lyrics performed by a highly talented cast, who give their all. The story line is kinda confusing, but it is still fun.

The running time is 90 minutes, without intermission, and I think about 10 minutes could easily be cut.

Interesting event at the show ... seated to my left was a nice lady in her 50s. We struck up a conversation about the Festival and she told me that her son was the conductor of the musical SASQUATCHED! THE MUSICAL. I told her that I had seen it on Tuesday and had loved it.

I then took out my iPhone and pulled up this blog site and let her read what I had posted about the show. She said ... “oh, so you’re the one who wrote this” ... and I, of course, said yes.

From this I assumed that she had read or been told about, the posting, which has received a very large number of hits.

Moving on ...

Tonight’s entertainment event is another NYMF show ...

8:00==>THE AWAKENING OF ANGEL DELUNA - “After discovering that the DeLuna Family Circus has fallen into the hands of a smarmy new owner, Ollie returns to the circus as a hobo clown. Can one clown save the circus while keeping his identity a secret?” (NYMF - full price ticket)

Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?

Now, for a bit of sports for my theater-buddy Marty ...

Yesterday afternoon, out at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, The Yankees won 8-4 over The Royals, with yet another lack-luster performance from Andy Pettitte.

Derek Jeter, in his first start of the season, went 1-4, with a RBI and a run scored, as the DH ... but ... gasp ... he had to leave the game due to a strained quadricep muscle. WTF???

These are the headlines in today's papers ...

“CAPTAIN OF INJURY - In Bronx bummer, quad strain ruins Jeter’s return from DL.” - back page of The Daily News

“OH, CRAPTAIN! - Jeter has hit, RBI and injured quad in Yankee return.” - back page of The New York Post.

“JETER CELEBRATION TURNS TO CONCERN - Yankee Star’s Ankle Is Fine, But He Injures Quadriceps.” - front page of sport section of The New York Times

Oh, man ... the drama continues in The Yankee Universe.

At the time of preparing this posting there is no report on Jeter’s status for tonight’s game.

Tonight will be the first game of a 3-game series against Minnesota @ Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built. On the mound for The Yankees will be Hiroki Kuroda (7-6) vs. Scott Diamond (5-8) for The Twins.

Moving on some more ...
