Billi Pod==>INSANE??

You know, my loyal and faithful readers and followers - sometimes I have to admit that Billi Pod does some insane things here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. Insane? What am I talking about I know you are all asking your inner selves? Well, selves ... this is it ...

For the past 24-hours the weather here in The Big Apple has been majorly nasty==>windy, cold, rain and snow, with accumulations on the sidewalks and crosswalks. Any “sane” person who has the opportunity would opt to forego almost anything he/she has scheduled in order to remain indoors and out of the elements. This becomes even more logical if the person is approaching 79-years of age. Logic and sanity should/would prevail ... right?

Right! Unless your name is Billi Pod, that is. Yes ... both last night and this morning your favorite blogger faced the nasty elements by leaving the warm and cozy confines of PHC to attend entertainment events.

Last night it was a show downtown in the Astor Place area and this morning @ 11:00am it was a staged reading of a new musical at the York Theatre in Midtown East.

Yes, it was nasty and unpleasant last night going to and from the theater but I survived. The bad weather also resulted in the cancellation of my dinner plans with Dian Crystal aka My Lady.

When I woke up this morning at 8:00am it was heavily snowing and apparently it had been snowing for some time because the ice-covered sidewalks and crosswalks were visible from way up here on the 41st floor. This immediately triggered an inner battle, with one part of inner me saying that it would be insane to venture out ... and the other inner me saying that only wussies would consider skipping an entertainment event with the title SCARY MUSICAL. Screw the weather ... have fun ...

Guess which inner self won.

Yep ... when I left PHC at 10:00am it was really snowing hard and it was very windy. Lots of accumulated snow and ice. I walked very very carefully. It was very unpleasant.

Too-long-story short==>I made it to and from the theatre safely and am now back in the cozy confines of PHC. It has stopped snowing but it is still cold and windy - 30ยบ @ 2:00pm

Insane? TOTALLY!!

Anyway ... why don’t we get back on schedule with Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s entertainment event ..

SUCCESS STORY, about the rise and fall of a young Jewish advertising exec in the late 1920s in New York City==>C+

Basically unlikeable characters are hindered by a stodgy story line. It was another show that I really wanted to like but it just didn’t work for me.

The running time is 2:30, with an intermission, and about half of the small audience left at intermission. Billi Pod stayed until the end.

Today is an entertainment doubleheader ...

The first show was ... 11:00am==>SCARY MUSICAL - “They sing, they dance. They die.” (Off Broadway - free ticket)

This is part of the York Theatre’s Developmental Reading Series and my report card/observations will be in tomorrow’s posting.

Tonight is a Broadway show in previews ...

8:00==>VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE - “Vanya and his stepsister Sonia have lived their entire lives in their family's farmhouse while their sister Masha has been gallivanting around the world as a successful actress and movie star. A surprise visit from Masha and her 20-something boy toy, Spike, throws the normally quiet household into utter upheaval.” (Broadway - discounted TDF ticket)

This show has a stellar cast, featuring David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver. It had a sold-out run Off Broadway @ Lincoln Center and received very favorable reviews. I was unable to get a ticket during its Off Broadway run. It has transferred to Broadway and the advance buzz is uniformly positive. Really looking forward to finally getting to see it.

OK ... it is now time to post this delayed report ... so ...
