1,600 MILES==>I Made It!! Yes!!

Thursday==>Last night, as I was walking back from my show in the Upper Westside, I recorded the 1,600th mile in my walking adventure that began back on July 1, 2012.

Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, your favorite blogger, who just happens to be 79-years old, has walked 1,600 miles, as recorded on his WeightWatchers Pedometer. His remaining goal is to reach 1,700 miles by midnight on June 30th. I am happy to report that I am on schedule to reach that plateau.

Now ... moving on to other things, like Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s entertainment event, the Off Broadway show ...

NAKED DARROW, a provocative look at our most hated and revered attorney Clarence Darrow as his great mind slips away - a revealing portrait of the man - not the legend==>A

It is well-acted and extremely informative.

The action takes place in the mind of the 79 year-old Darrow. He is suffering from what may have been dementia/Alzheimer’s disease and is kept in seclusion by his family and moved from one clinic to another, for both his health and to preserve his legacy.

Last night was the first preview performance. The playwright/performer Gary Anderson, does an incredible job. The small venue was full and the audience was often cast in the role of jurors, listening to one of Darrow's closing arguments.

During the show Billi Pod had one of those OMG! WTF! moments.

What am I talking about I know you are all anxiously asking your inner selves? Well ... selves ... it went down like this ...

Darrow was giving his final argument in the 1925 trial of a black physician named Ossian Sweet, who was on trial for murder in an attempt to defend he and his family from a mob in an all-white Chicago neighborhood.

Darrow recounted Sweet’s testimony that as a 5-year old child (in 1900) he had witnessed a brutal mob lynching in his hometown of Bartow, Florida. Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... Bartow, Florida, where Billi Pod grew up. OMG! WTF!

The testimony talked about The Peace River and The Peace River Bridge where the lynching occurred.  It was also filled with gruesome details of the lynching and subsequent burning of the body.

The all-white Chicago jury acquitted Dr. Sweet of the murder charges.

I have to admit that it really felt strange, it really did.

When the show was over there was a brief Q & A session with Anderson and I told him that I had grown up in Bartow. He came over to me and shook my hand and said ... “Thank you so much for coming.”

Wow!! I have to admit that even this morning I am still processing the whole thing.

Folks, I highly recommend this show. It is playing at the Drilling Company Theatre on West 78th Street and runs through June 30th. The running time is 90 minutes, without intermission.

Moving on to today, which will be another entertainment doubleheader ... first will be ...

.3:00==>SEX TIPS FOR STRAIGHT WOMEN FROM A GAY MAN - “A new three-character comedy whose title says it all!” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This show is playing at the 777 Theater on 8th Avenue, not one of my favorite venues.

Then for the evening I will meet up with Kate Martin of Lakeland, Fl, who is living in NYC for an 8-week fashion-industry-related internship. Kate recently graduated from the University of Florida.

We will see an Off Broadway musical ...

8:00==>MONEY - “A very wealthy man, spurred on by a woman whom he has just met but nevertheless would like to marry, seeks a meaningful purpose in life. He tries everything - even a job!" (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket)

This is playing at The Theatre Row Complex on my block. The running time is 2-hours, with an intermission.

When the show is over we will catch a bite somewhere in my immediate ‘hood.

Then I will slip into my “Hovering Nun” mode and escort her back to her NYU dorm down in Union Square.

So ... Mike and Joy ... no need to worry ... your  baby is gonna be safe.

Moving on to just a bit of sports ...

Yesterday afternoon out at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, The Bronx Bombers got a decent outing from our ace CC Sabathia, beating the Indians 6-4 on clutch hitting from Brett Gardner. We swept the 3-game series

The Bombers begin a West Coast road trip tonight in Seattle @ 10:10pm EST. On the mound for the Yankees will be Phil Hughes (2-4) vs. Aaron Harang (2-5) for the Mariners.

OK ... time to post this and do a bit of walking and wandering before my afternoon show.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>6.68 miles (or, 14,609 steps)

Total mileage since 7/1/12==>1,600.68 miles

GO YANKEES!!
