TGIF/NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC/KEEN TEENS/Some Sports

Friday==>It is a gray and overcast day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. I hope it gets better as the day progresses so that my Worker Bee friends will be able to happily begin their weekend @ 5:05pm.

Remember, Worker Bee friends ... your weekend doesn’t start until at least 5:05pm ... so ... don’t even think about slipping out early ... everyone at work is watching everyone else ... so ... you are warned.

First==>A HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout-out to my son-in-law Dr. John Bendeck aka Dr. John of Columbia, SC. John has reached the big SIX ONE today.

Hopefully he and his wife, Kathi, will have a day/evening of celebration.

Not only is John a terrific son-in-law ... he is also a totally amazing cook/chef and is known for his unbelievably AWESOME lamb shanks.

Now ... let’s move on to your favorite blogger’s report on last night’s entertainment event ...

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC @ Avery Fisher Hall. The program was: Berg: Violin Concerto; Webern: “Im Sommerwind; and, Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”==>wonderful, as usual.

The highlight of the evening for me was Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” which concluded the concert and received a roaring standing ovation.

Of the nine Beethoven Symphonies, “Eroica” is my favorite, because, among other things, it brings back fond memories of playing the final movement at a year-ending concert my Junior year in High School at Summerlin Institute in Bartow, FL. I was first chair/solo clarinet and Band President of the Summerlin Institute Marching Band.

I did not know at the time that this would be my last concert with the Band but the reason(s) are way back in the past and best forgotten ... OK? ... I mean ... it was a long long time ago ... and ... WTF??? ...

That f**king asshole Howard Stivers, the so-called Band Director ... may his soul burn forever in Hellfire and Brimstone ... I mean ... let’s just forget about it ... time to move on ... right? ... I mean ... Howard Stivers had the personality of a snake and the leadership skills of a ferret ... I mean ... whatever ... so ...

Whew ... moving on ...

When the concert was over it was pretty nasty out so I opted not to walk back to the apartment as I had originally planned to do.

Tonight’s entertainment event is an Off Broadway show ...

8:00==>2014 KEEN TEENS FESTIVAL OF NEW WORKS - “Three one-act plays written by professional playwrights specifically for teenage performers.”
(Off Broadway - full price ticket)

The three plays are:

GOING LEFT - “There's a big high school basketball game next week, and the opposing point guards are about to go on their first date. A comedy about doubting yourself, defending your teammates, and dribbling with both hands.”

WHY AREN’T YOU DEAD ALREADY - “A community deals with the aftermath of a teen’s suicide prompted by vicious bullying. Through flashbacks we watch them react with heartbreak, shock, and even denial - showing how collective thoughtlessness can make the unthinkable very real.”

SYD ARTHUR - “Devastated by the recent loss of her brother, Sydney A. Arthur takes a trip to the desert with nothing but her best friend Go, a beat-up bike and a backpack full of ‘provisions.’”

This will be the 4th consecutive year that I have seen this talented company perform. Their talent and energy flows from the stage and totally engulfs the theatre. It is fun just being a member of the audience.

It is being performed at the Theatre Row Complex on my West 42nd Street block, has a running time of 1:40, without intermission, and the remaining performances are:

Saturday - 3:00pm & 8:00pm
Sunday - 2:00pm & 5:00pm

Moving on to some sports ... for Marty ...

When I got back to the apartment last night after my concert I did watch part of the NFL Draft from Radio City and my response is==>who cares?

To my surprise Johnny Manziel aka Johnny Football didn’t get picked until the bottom of the first round. He was the 22nd pick and went to The Cleveland Browns.

Billi Pod predicts that he will quickly develop and become a big-time star and will not suffer the indignities that befell Timmy Tebow.

On the baseball scene ...

Tonight @ 8:10pm The Yankees (18-15) will begin a 3-game series against The Brewers (22-13) in Milwaukee. The Brewers have the best record in The National League.

Because it is being played in the home stadium of a NL team we will lose the designated hitter and our pitchers will be forced to bat. That is never fun.

On the mound for The Yankees will be our new ace Masahiro Tanaka (4-0) vs. Yovani Gallardo (2-1) for The Brewers.

In closing==>HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE (after you join me in praying that the soul of Howard Stivers remains eternally in Hell)

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.01 miles (or, 8,765 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>450.63 miles (average 3.52 miles per day)

GO YANKEES!!
