Let Me Bring You Up-To-Date

First ... Had a wonderful time yesterday afternoon at the 4+ hour long lunch with John Horne and Amanda Edge of Anna Maria, FL, and their 34-person posse at the trendy restaurant Maloney & Porcelli, located on 50th Street in midtown.

Yes, that is the correct time. I arrived at the scheduled noon “starting” time and left the party at 4:00pm. They were still going strong.

This diverse group from the Bradenton/Sarasota area has been making an annual pilgrimage to The Big Apple for a number of years and this lunch event is usually the highlight. To say that they had tons and tons of food and gallons and gallons of beverages is an understatement.

In the group were John’s father and mother, Lynn and Ann Horne. Ann will be celebrating her 80th birthday on Monday. Her younger sister Flo was a classmate of mine at Summerlin Institute in Bartow, FL, eons and eons ago.

Also ... a huge thank you to Lynn and Ann for treating me to this event ... thank you again and again ...

Ever had one of those times when you leave an event and have the feeling ... “gee, that was really something special” ... Well, this is exactly how I felt ... so ... thank you John and Amanda. I look forward to next year’s event.

My entertainment event for last night was ...

8:00==>SEX GOOD; MONEY BAD - “From a small apartment to a small dorm room, the occupants are visited by a few larger than life characters that throw a wrench into their plans. In Sex Good; Money Bad - some get it and some don't...” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)

Billi Pod’s report card==>B+<==funny, well acted, profane and entertaining.

Another major plus - was able to spend some catchup time before the show and at intermission with my theater buddy Phil Parnes, and that was nice.

Since Billi Pod missed his usual blog posting yesterday he will now give his report cards on his various entertainment events since the last posting on Friday ... beginning with ...

TUCK EVERLASTING - “A staged reading of a new musical about a young woman who meets and falls in love with a young man who is part of a family of immortals.”

An interesting story line and very well performed for a staged reading. I saw this as a part of Dian Crystal’s posse, which included Marty and me.

And then ...

8:00==>THE ASPHALT CHRISTMAS - “It's The Bells of St. Mary's meets The Exorcist - the story of St. Celestine's annual holiday pageant, a "possessed" fifteen-year-old girl, her long-lost mother, a singing priest with a past, and two nuns who must deal with the devil within their convent school walls.”

Billi Pod’s report card==>B+<==funny, very profane, with excellent acting. The Pope wouldn’t like it though, and that is putting it mildly.

The director of the show is Lawrence Lesher, who happens to be a friend of my longtime friend and acting buddy Larry Helms of Lakeland. When Larry learned from FaceBook and this blog that I was going to see this show he asked that I say hello to Larry and, before the show began, I did. Yes, it is indeed a small world.

OK, this pretty much brings you loyal and faithful readers up-to-date ... so we will now move on to today’s doubleheader ... this time a music doubleheader ... tada ...

3:00==>NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Avery Fisher Hall - “The Principal Brass Quintet again features festive holiday favorites guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.” (full price ticket)

This event has pretty much become a holiday staple for Billi Pod and it is always a lot of fun. Have an excellent seat.

When the concert is over I will then head further uptown to Symphony Space at 95th Street and Broadway to see ...

6:00==>VOICES OF GOTHAM WINTER SHOW @ Symphony Space - “Celebrate the holiday season with an incredible assortment of barbershop, doo wop, R&B and pop a cappella arrangements brought to you by New York's most dynamic and exciting a cappella chorus.” (full price ticket)

The rental agent for my building, Doug Goodenough, is a member of the chorus so that will make the event even better for Billi Pod.

Yes ... a pretty interesting day ahead for Billi Pod. The upcoming week is also shaping up and I will share that information with you loyal and faithful readers tomorrow.

Oh, in response to several inquiries==>yes ... you can expect the now legendary and beloved “Condom On The Sleeve” to be re-posted next week.

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
