Last night’s THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK CONCERT @ Symphony Space, performed by the 72-person Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band was one of the BEST concerts of 2011 and Billi Pod’s report card is==>A+
The highlight of the evening for Billi Pod was the Soliloquy from CAROUSEL performed by the stunning Christopher Johnstone.
It was refreshing to hear the different sound that comes from a band versus that from an orchestra. What is the difference some of you are no doubt breathlessly asking? Well, in a band the string sections are replaced by reed instruments, most notably the clarinet.
And, remember, Billi Pod (not his name back then) was First Chair Clarinet in the Summerlin Institute Band, through his Junior year, until he got into a physical altercation with that asshole of a Band Director Howard Stivers. Maybe more about that in a later posting ... or maybe not ... but ... Stivers was a f**king asshole ... remember that ... anyway ... moving on ...
The house was full and I am happy to report that my comp. seat was excellent, in the side balcony but with a great view of the stage.
I was really impressed with the professionalism of the band. They sounded spot-on. I am so glad I had this opportunity. Billi Pod left the theater with a smile on his face.
It is bright and cold this morning in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. How cold? 38º at 8:00am. The high is supposed to be in the mid-40s.
Today is a doubleheader (plus) entertainment day/evening for Billi Pod ... first ...
2:00==>HAND TO GOD - “A trash-talking hand puppet takes charge of its shy teenage handler at a Christian Puppet Ministry. Has the devil been let in?” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
My theater buds who have seen this show have all liked it. Collectively they have all used the phrase ... “it’s very in-your-face, but extremely well performed.”
After the show I will come back to PHC to watch The SEC Championship game between LSU and GEORGIA @ 4:00pm on CBS. Have a problem though ... as you know ... Billi Pod hates Tigers ... but ... ain’t no way can he pull for The Bulldogs ... no way ... maybe he can just remain neutral.
Then for tonight is more music ...
7:00==>ORPHEUS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA @ Carnegie Hall, featuring oboist Albrecht Mayer - “Works by: Hindemith, Bach, Mozart & Haydn.” (complimentary ticket)
I anticipate that my comp. seat will be in the upper nosebleed section but that doesn’t matter that much in Carnegie Hall because the sound is excellent regardless of where you are seated.
You know, folks, today’s entertainment agenda again reflects why Billi Pod loves living in New York City ... he is seeing a well-reviewed Off Broadway show and a concert performed by a World-renowned musician at Carnegie Hall for a total cost of only $9.00, the service fees for his ticket service. It can’t get much better than this, it really can’t.
Still ain’t heard nuttin’ from da Bronx Bombers management. Monday is the deadline for paying for your plan renewal, so I think they are playing a game of ... “let’s see who blinks first.” We will see who wins this one.
