Have Bonnie And Clyde Been Shot Down???

I hate to start my blog with negativity ... but ... I have a responsibility, as a fair and unbiased reporter of the ongoings here in Gotham City, to let it all hang out, so to speak. What am I talking about you are no doubt breathlessly asking?

Well, BONNIE AND CLYDE opened last night to mostly negative reviews in the local media.

To quote the local chatboard guru Jesse21 --

“How did the show fare? Well, it was pistol whipped by the press for the most part. Looking on the bright side, however, there are also many mixed reviews complimenting parts of the production. And, if you are wondering about the most positive of the reviews, then I direct you to Mark Kennedy’s appraisal for the Associated Press which appears in many papers throughout the country.”

Since Billi Pod has several friends who have “connections” to this show, either as producers or otherwise, he finds the following comment from the Backstage review to be particularly harsh ...

“There are a staggering 38 producers billed in the program above the title, but even if the musical had been produced by 50 million Frenchmen, it would still be terribly wrong.”

As you will recall Billi Pod gave the show an A.

Is it dead? Well, I don’t know. Obviously it is in trouble but there is the possibility that the stellar cast will permit it to live and prosper, at least for awhile.

Billi Pod will be keeping his fingers crossed.

Moving on ...

Yesterday afternoon’s staged reading of WICKED MOON, about attempts to close the cabaret The Moon, was very enjoyable. My only quibble is that the story line is pretty formulastic but it does have one twist that helps keep everyone involved.

So, thank you, My Lady, aka Dian Crystal, for taking me along.

Last night’s concert==>NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Avery Fisher Hall was wonderful. The program was Mahler’s Tenth Symphony. It was 64 minutes without intermission, of course.

When the concert was over I considered walking back to PHC but it was just a bit too cold and windy, so I took the subway back.

Billi Pod’s entertainment event for tonight is more music ...

8:00==>THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK CONCERT @ Symphony Space - “The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band performs an evening of favorites from stage and screen.”

The program is:

Berlin: Irving Berlin Showstoppers

Cohan: Star-Spangled Salute

Gershwin: Selections from Porgy and Bess

Porter: Cole Porter on Broadway

Rodgers: The Carousel Waltz

Schuman: Chester Overture for Band

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

BREAKING NEWS==>According to one of Billi Pod’s internet sources==>Due out in 2012 ... HARRY POTTER AND THE DRACONIAN BATWANKER.

Just remember where you heard it first. You are welcum.

Ain’t heard nuttin’ from The Yankees.
