It Has To Be You - Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra - Sports Update

Thursday==>Sorry about the delay in today’s posting. Your favorite blogger here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, has a legitimate excuse but ... he won’t bore you loyal and faithful readers and followers with the mundane details ... so ...

Before we get started with Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s outstanding Off Broadway show he wants to take just a moment to observe how lucky he has been in the last several days/nights with a consecutive series of really excellent shows==>ON THE TOWN; LENNON - THROUGH A GLASS ONION; I AM HARVEY MILK; and, UNCANNY VALLEY.

Yes, the Theater Gods have smiled down on him ... and ... we can now add the next show to the list ...

IT HAS TO BE YOU, about a wealthy widow who becomes involved with a much-younger man, leaving her three grown children to question if she's falling in love or falling prey to a gigolo, and, what, if anything, can they do about it==>A.

Folks, this is a very funny show that is also emotionally involving as it addresses the underlying issue of dealing with the elderly, who may or may not need outside assistance.

The 5-person cast is excellent, especially  Peggy J. Scott as the 75yr. old Dorothy and Catherine Butterfield as the troubled daughter Mindy. Butterfield is also the playwright.

The three siblings are very believable and their relationship(s) with each another and with their mother is far from being cliche-ridden, as is often the case in plays dealing with family matters/issues. This is not your typical “dysfunctional family” but rather a very realistic family dealing with major modern-day family issues.

My only quibble is that ... IMHO ... about 10 minutes needs to be cut from the running time.

The 60-seat theatre was full and the audience was very much into the show, giving the performers a standing ovation at curtain call.

Billi Pod says-->see this show.

It is playing at the Dorothy Streisin Theatre on West 36th Street, has a running time of 2:15, with intermission, and runs through October 26th.

Moving on to tonight’s entertainment event ... a classical music concert ...

8:00==>THE BELGRADE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Carnegie Hall. The program is:

Tchaikovsky -  Marche slave;
Verdi - Arias from Rigoletto and Macbeth; and,
Sibelius - Symphony No. 2
(discounted TDF ticket)

We have been advised that our TDF seats will be either in the side or rear of the parquet (orchestra) section. This is excellent. The running time is 2:20, with intermission.

In closing==>be advised that your favorite blogger intends to spend Friday night in front of his 42” flat screen TV watching Game One of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), Baltimore vs. Kansas City, and then on Saturday, all day and evening it will be baseball and college football, including the Gator/LSU game @ 7:30pm in The Swamp, carried on SECN.

But ... have faith out there in the morass known as cyberspace ... because on Sunday Billi Pod has a theater doubleheader and he will give you loyal and faithful readers and followers the details in a later posting.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>4.10 miles (or, 8,958 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>1,143.03 miles (average 4.07 miles per day)

GO GATORS!!
