Sunday==>Good Morning to all of my loyal and faithful readers and followers. We need to get today’s posting started because your favorite blogger has a doubleheader scheduled for today ... so ... let’s begin with ...
Billi Pod’s report card on yesterday’s Off Broadway show ...
A WALK IN THE WOODS, about two superpower arms negotiators, one a cynical Russian veteran played by Kathleen Chalfant, and the other an idealistic American newcomer played by Paul Niebanck, who meet informally in the woods after long, frustrating hours at the bargaining table==>B
The story line in this drama, based on actual meetings between between Paul Nitze and Yuli Kvitsinsky, who took a ''walk in the woods'' during the 1982 Geneva peace talks and came up with their own deal, is, truthfully, not that emotionally involving ... but ... and a huge but ...
The show is saved by an amazing performance from Kathleen Chalfant. Her presence on stage makes it all worthwhile. Her counterpart, Paul Niebanck, holds his own and is also very believable.
I am soooooo glad I finally got to see it because it closed Sunday night.
The remainder of the day/evening was spent in front of my 42” flat screen TV watching college football, details later.
Now ... on to today’s stellar entertainment doubleheader ... first we have an Off Broadway show ...
2:00==>FOUND - “This musical follows Davy who, along with his two best friends, is lost and broke. When he finds a strangely revealing note on his windshield meant for someone else, it sparks an outlandish idea that finds him and his compatriots on a wild, comedic journey.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
This “quirky” musical from Hunter Bell, who gave us [title of show], just opened to mostly highly favorable reviews, is playing at The Atlantic Theater on West 20th Street, has a running time of 2:15, with intermission, and currently runs through November 9th.
When the show is over I will then rather leisurely walk East, across town to the Eastside for my second show, stopping along the way for a slice and a diet coke.
My second show is something a bit “different” ...
7:00==>THE KINSEY SICKS - “The "girls" in The Kinsey Sicks have discovered reality TV, and they're desperate to win fame at ANY price. Join them on their hilarious quest for 15 minutes of glory as they romp through hilarious bits and sing in gorgeous harmony.” (complimentary ticket)
This outrageous group bills themselves as “America's Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet,” and they perform both original music and lyrics as well as parodies of well-known songs a cappella. Their work, while extremely comedic, is often highly politically charged.
They tour all over the country. I have seen them perform several times and they can be gut-busting funny.
This will be a one-night-only performance at the Baruch Performing Arts Center on East 25th Street.
Yeah, looks like an interesting doubleheader, doesn’t it?
Now, on the sports scene ...
Well, folks, as most of you know my Florida Gators suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Missouri Tigers in a 42-13 debacle before a sold-out Homecoming crowd at The Swamp.
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. It was an embarrassment from the opening kickoff to the final play.
In the third quarter the crowd began chanting “Fire Muschamp.” And ... he should be fired ASAP. It won’t happen ... but it should ...
Major congrats go out to The 'Noles for their comeback win over The Fighting Irish. It was a really exciting game to watch.
Now ... have to post this and then get ready for my doubleheader ... so ...
HAVE A GREAT REST OF THE WEEKEND.
Total mileage for 2014==>1,187.84 miles (average 4.08 miles per day)
