Monday==>Good afternoon from your favorite blogger here in The Greatest City In The World.
I hope that each and everyone of my loyal and faithful readers and followers out there in the hinterlands, wastelands and boondocks had a GREAT weekend because Billi Pod certainly did.
Yesterday was a terrific day, with exciting football and dinner with friends.
So ... let’s start with the dinner with my friends Dian Crystal aka My Lady and Marty Kosarik aka Whatever.
Marty and I planned to treat Dian to a somewhat belated Birthday Dinner so we met up at my apartment around 4:30pm. We gave her our gifts and then it was time to head over to Restaurant Row on West 46th Street for an early dinner.
At Marty’s suggestion we had reservations at a place called Bar Centrale and this is what one of the local restaurant critics wrote about it:
“Neither signage or illumination announces the existence of Bar Centrale next door to Joe Allen’s; to discover this in-spot for booze, bites, and Broadway stargazing, you’ve gotta climb up the stairs of a Victorian brownstone and past a set of hulking, unmarked oak doors. Sizzling word-of-mouth on this intimate, parlor-floor boĆ®te means that reservations are required for bar seating (with precious few booths and tables), especially after shows let out.”
“The atmosphere, all Milanese gray with dark-brown banquettes and unobtrusive, conversation-friendly jazz, is subdued and cool, all the better for post-curtain post-mortems. A simple menu of salads, appetizers, and sandwiches doesn’t astound, but easily balances the liquid fare.”
Yep, that's correct - there's nothing to indicate that a restaurant is located there.
We had a great dinner that consisted mainly of finger-food but that was just what we wanted. The service was excellent and I really liked the atmosphere. The place is small and, of course, reservations are mandatory.
When dinner was over we split. Dian and Marty went to their show, “Dinner with Friends,” (yeah, that’s right) and I came back to the apartment and settled in to watch the Niners/Seahawks game.
As you sports fans know==>The Seahawks won in a very exciting game that went down to the final seconds and The Broncos earlier won behind a stellar performance from Peyton Manning.
The teams now move on to The Super Bowl on February 2nd.
I think the following two headlines from the front page of the Sports Section of The New York Times pretty much sums up the two games ...
“Manning’s Big Game Caps His Comeback And Leads the Broncos.”
"With Defense and Fans Thunderous, Seahawks Advance to Super Bowl."
Yeah ... it was a great end to a great day here in The Big Apple.
Now ... what about today?
Well, as most of you loyal and faithful readers and followers know, Monday is my usual errands and chores day. Then for the evening is an Off Broadway show in very early previews ...
7:00==>GREED: A Musical For Our Times - “What do Jamie Dimon, Pope Francis, Lance Armstrong, Chico Marx, and A-Rod all have in common? They share the stage in this new musical whose exploits range from the outrageous Ponzi scheme of 1910 to the subtle sales pitches of retirement planners and mortgage bundlers.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
In the cast is Stephanie D'Abruzzo, best known for her Tony and Drama Desk nominated performances originating the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut both off and on Broadway in “Avenue Q.”
This show is playing at The Playroom Theatre on West 46th Street and runs through February 5th. I couldn’t find any info regarding the running time.
So ... will post this and then start to work on my errands and stuff ...
Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>3.07 miles (or, 6,719 steps)
Total mileage for the week==>24.49 miles (average 3.50 miles per day)
