Thursday==>OK, my loyal and faithful readers and followers out there in the morass known as cyberspace, it is another bright, sunny but freezing-ass cold day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.
At 9:30am it was 12º, wind chill down to -3º. The high today is predicted to be 22º, with the possibility of snow flurries in the late afternoon.
For the next 10-days the warmest day will be next Monday when it will soar up to 31º although the low for that day is forecast to be only 1º.
Anyway ... moving on to Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s concert up at Lincoln Center ...
NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Avery Fisher Hall, with works by Stravinsky, Mozart and Tchaikovsky==>EXCELLENT, as usual.
The highlight of the evening for your favorite blogger was Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto performed by Judith LeClair.
My friends Al & Irene Warshauer, both attorneys, were seated next to me and that was nice because we needed some major catching-up time.
Both before and after the concert I did some extra walking on the subway platforms.
Tonight’s entertainment event is a new Off Broadway show ...
8:00==>DARRELL HAMMOND'S "If You're Not Up There..." - “This developmental one man show is an autobiographical comedy based on Hammonds’s memoir about love, hate, redemption, and putting up with it all.” (Off Broadway - discounted TDF ticket)
The full title of the best-selling book is: “God If You’re Not Up There, I’m F***ed: Tales of Stand-up, Saturday Night Live, and Other Mind-Altering Mayhem.”
As I am sure most of you know, Hammond was a longtime member of the Saturday Night Live cast and was best known for his impressions of Bill Clinton and Al Gore.
The show is playing at the 62-seat Black Box Theatre in the bowels of the Laura Pels Theatre on West 46th Street and runs through February 2. I have been unable to unearth the running time.
On the sports scene ... for you Marty ...
The Yankees went on a spending spree (Spending spree? Yankees? No way!) and signed 25-yr. old Japanese pitching sensation Masahiro Tanaka to a 7-year $155 million contract.
With the off-season signing of free-agents Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, Brian McCann, and others, the Bronx Bomber annual payroll is at least $192.201 million, which pushes them over the $189 million luxury tax threshold.
Hopefully these big bucks will allow them to recover from their dismal performance last year when they didn’t make the playoffs and their TV ratings and attendance sagged.
So ... bring on the new season ...
Man ... it is now 12:30pm and I am antsy as Hell so I think I will post this and then dress warmly and walk over to The Port Authority Bus Terminal for some walk and wander time. May take the shuttle over to Grand Central ... whatever ...
STAY WARM EVERYONE!!
Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>3.16 miles (or, 6,922 steps)
Total mileage for 2014==>55.70 miles (average 2.53 miles per day)
GO BRONCOS!!
