Saturday==>On the first entertainment doubleheader for 2014 Billi Pod must report to his loyal and faithful readers and followers that the weather here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, has been less than cooperative, and that is putting it mildly.
Yes, it is an ugly and overcast day with rain predicted for most of the day and into the evening. Luckily the temperature has risen to the mid-50s and that is a major plus.
Thankfully, my two shows (details below) are each within acceptable walking distances from PHC, my apartment on W. 42nd Street. The first is in a theater on my block and the second is just a mile down to the Chelsea area.
So ... let’s move on to Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show ...
I AM THE WIND, about a glorious afternoon on the water that turns into a devastating meditation on life and the depths of friendship==>C<==giving it the benefit of the doubt.
The two actors, Christopher Tierney and Louis Butelli, are excellent but ... and a huge but ... the story line is totally incomprehensible. It is kinda like setting “Waiting for Godot” on a sail boat.
The running time is only 60 minutes but that still seemed to be forever. The small Theater C at the 59E59 Theatre Complex (one of my favorite venues) was full. As I was leaving the theater I overheard several discussions about the show and they were all of the “WTF was that all about??” genre.
As an interesting side note==>Christopher Tierney was the actor in "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark." who fell 35 feet into the orchestra pit during a preview of the show, when his safety harness failed. He suffered a fractured skull, a fractured shoulder blade, four broken ribs and three broken vertebra.
This show only runs through January 26th.
Billi Pod says==>you are hereby warned!!
Moving on to today’s entertainment doubleheader, two Off Broadway shows, first ...
2:00==>PARABLES FOR THE ONE PERCENT - “A satirical comedy that explores what we have never heard; the interior monologues of the richest people alive today.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
This show is playing at The Studio Theatre @ Theatre Row on my block, has a running time of 90 minutes, without intermission, and has only 3 scheduled performances, Saturday @ 2:00pm & 8:00pm and Sunday @ 3:00pm.
Then, for the evening is ...
8:00==>I COULD SAY MORE - “The tale of a modern family - when what could have been a relaxing weekend at the beach takes a turn for the worse as old rivalries surface and new rivalries are initiated among a group of 40-something friends. Liquor flows, emotions run high and rivalries old and new surface, triggering everyone to rethink their lives, loves and commitments.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
This show is in previews, is playing at The Hudson Guild Theatre on West 26th Street, has a running time of 2:00, with intermission, and runs through February 1st.
Yep, I think these two shows should be very interesting. Hope I’m right.
Will close this posting now. Sorry, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, but your favorite blogger is in no mood to write anything about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie aka BlubberBoi and/or the NFL playoffs ... sorry ... so ... just ...
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!
