BRONX BOMBERS==>A

Wednesday==>Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, it is freezing-ass cold here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. At 9:30am this morning it was bright and sunny but the temperature was only and with wind chill it was down to -9º. BURRRRRR!!

Now that’s cold. At least the snow has left the area but the streets and sidewalks are still icy and slushy, especially at the crosswalks. And outside my building the wind is whipping off The Hudson River and it cuts like a knife.

The forecast high for the day is only 17º. Meaning, your favorite blogger is going to stay in the warm and cozy confines of PHC until it is time for his evening’s entertainment event up at Lincoln Center (details below).

And, to answer your questions ... yes ... I braved the elements last night and made it up to my show at the theater located at Broadway and 50th Street. When I left PHC it was still heavily snowing.

In order to protect myself I walked over to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and took the E train one stop up to 50th Street where I had only a short walk to the venue.

But ... even that was very very unpleasant, added to because the producers wanted the comp. tix holders to show up at the box office at least one hour before curtain time.

I have to admit that when I got inside the lobby area and shook the snow off of my Yankee jacket I thought to myself ... “self ... this was just plain stupid ... when are you ever going to acknowledge that you are 79 f**king yrs. old and no longer invincible?”

Well ... you know what self said, don’t you ... “shut the f**k up butthole - you are here so just enjoy it.”

Happily, the snow was gone when the show was over but the wind was whipping and it was bitterly cold. Oh well ...

Moving on to Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Broadway show ...

BRONX BOMBERS, that follows beloved icon Yogi Berra and his wife Carmen through a century of the team's trials and triumphs, bringing generations of Yankee greats together on one stage==>A<==the same grade it received back on October 6th, when it was Off Broadway.

The engaging story line centers basically around a real altercation in the Yankee dugout in June 1977 between the volatile Yankee manager Billy Martin (Keith Nobbs) and the recently acquired “superstar” Reggie Jackson (Francois Battiste). Veteran coach and former star Yogi Berra (Peter Scolari) attempts to restore order by espousing the importance of "teamwork."

During the two acts the incarnations of Elston Howard, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Thurman Munson, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter appear.

There is excellent acting, especially Peter Scolari as Yogi, The sets and staging are stellar.

The house was only about 1/3 full (I hope due to the weather) and it was pretty obvious that a lot of the audience were Yankee fans.

Now ... you don’t have to be a Yankee fan (like moi) to enjoy this show because the story line and acting carry it to an entertaining conclusion.

Billi Pod says==>See It!

It is playing at The Circle In the Square Theatre at Broadway and 50th Street, has a running time of 1:50, with intermission, and tickets are on sale through July 6th.

Moving on to ...

Tonight’s entertainment event is a concert up at Lincoln Center ...

7:30==>NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA @ Avery Fisher Hall - The program is:

Stravinsky - “The Song of the Nightingale;”
Mozart - Bassoon Concerto: and,
Tchaikovsky - Suite No. 2
(season subscription series)

Yeah, I am really in need of a classical music fix. Getting up to Lincoln Center via subway means a minimal exposure to the elements and that is also nice.

In closing ... I want to acknowledge all of the extremely favorable emails, texts and posts I received regarding yesterday's 2013 Entertainment posting. Your favorite blogger appreciates the time so many of his loyal and faithful readers and followers took to respond==>THANK YOU!!

STAY WARM EVERYONE!!

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>2.20 miles (or, 4,826 steps)

Total mileage for 2014==>52.54 miles (average 2.50 miles per day)

GO BRONCOS!!
