TGIF - Naperville - Carousel

Friday==>Billi Pod will omit the usual weather report from The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, because ... well ... because it's boring and it is freezing and it is boring and freezing for most of the rest of the country ... with the exception of Florida ... duh ... so ...

We will begin this TGIF posting with Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show ...

NAPERVILLE, in this “comedy” Howard leaves his career in Seattle and moves back home to Naperville to help his mother Candice transition after an accident leaves her blind. At the local Caribou Coffee, they cross paths with Anne, Howard's old classmate/former crush and Roy, a mega-religious businessman==>C-.

I really wanted to like this show ... but ...

Unfortunately, this so-called “comedy” was short on laughs after the first 10 minutes as it spiraled downward to a totally, and I mean, totally unbelievable final scene.

The final scene made the whole story line feel confusing, manipulative and implausible.

While the acting is acceptable by the end of the show you want to rush on stage and bitch-slap each of the basically unlikeable characters, especially the stridently willful newly blind mother. Oh, yeah ... especially her.

Billi Pod says==>you are hereby warned.

This show is playing at the Abingdon Theatre Complex on West 36th Street, has a running time of 1:40, without intermission, and runs through December 6th.

Moving on to something very positive ... and that is tonight’s entertainment event ...

8:00==>CAROUSEL - “In a Maine coastal village toward the end of the 19th century, the swaggering, carefree carnival barker Billy Bigelow captivates and marries the naive millworker, Julie Jordan. Fifteen years later, Billy instills in both his lonely teenage daughter and her mother a sense of hope and dignity.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket)

This Rodgers & Hammerstein classic features songs that have become Broadway standards, such as: "If I Loved You," "June is Bustin' Out All Over," and "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Carousel is on Billi Pod’s top 5 favorite musicals of all time list.

I have seen several productions by The St. Jean’s Company and have enjoyed each one, so I am really looking forward to this evening.

It is being performed at The St. Jean’s Auditorium on East 79th Street, has a running time of 2:30, with intermission, and the final performance is this Saturday @ 8:00pm.

OK, my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... stay warm and ...

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>3.02 miles (or, 6,671 steps)
