Saturday==>a bright and cold day here in New York City, The Greatest City In The World - 32º @ 8:30am.
Had a kinda WTF? beginning to the day. My apartment was without water from approximately 9:00am until 12:15pm due to some problems with the water main outside our building. Luckily I had plenty of water on reserve from my preparations for Hurricane Sandy.
Everything is now back to normal. Ran into one of my neighbors in the hallway and he told me that he was in the middle of his morning shower, soaped from head to toe, when suddenly the water went off. Really unpleasant because he had a midmorning business appointment. The only extra water he had was in the refrigerator, so he had to warm it up in the microwave, then rinse himself off ... awkward.
Not the best way to begin the weekend, that is for sure.
Anyway ... moving on to my report card on last night’s entertainment event ...
THE RED AND THE BLACK, about a young man in 1820s France who is trying to rise above his social and romantic station==>B+
This show is interesting, informative and well-acted, especially Lucas Wells as young Julien and Brian Linden as de Renal, Julien’s aristocrat employer.
The play spends a lot of time emphasizing the class differences in France in the 1800s and sometimes it is a bit difficult to follow the references to historical events and/or off-stage characters, but this is only a minor quibble.
The show as a whole is well worth seeing and it is playing at the Theatre At Saint Clement’s and runs through February 3rd.
Tonight’s entertainment will be some more music ...
8:00==>SING OUT, RAISE HOPE @ Town Hall - “A Benefit Concert to support pediatric AIDS research, featuring Christine Ebersole and the Yale Whiffenpoofs.” (complimentary ticket)
I know you are wondering to your inner selves ... self, what is a Whiffenpoof? Well, my loyal and faithful readers and followers , as a result of Billi Pod’s tireless research in your behalf, here is the answer ...
“Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Founded in 1909, the ‘Whiffs’ began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions and now travel worldwide.” (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Even though I am rather confident my comp. seat will be in the upper nosebleed section of Town Hall, I am still looking forward to this event ... it should be a stellar evening.
Well ... it is now 1:00pm and I am getting antsy, so will post this and then dress warmly and head out for a bit of a walk and wander session ...
