It was 41º @ 7:30am in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. Bright and cold.

Yes ... a beautiful but cold morning for The Big Blue parade through "The Canyon of Heroes" which began at @ 11:00am downtown, ending up at City Hall Plaza.

Yes ... Billi Pod has been watching the event unfold from the cozy and warm confines of PHC. The relatively nice weather has brought out record crowds of die-hard Giants fans and, at the moment ... Eli Manning is King Of The World ... at least here in Gotham City.

Can you believe this ... we haven’t even finished the award ceremony and already the “pundits” are talking about the odds for and against The Giants making it back to Super Bowl XLVII. Come on guys ... why don’t you just give us the opportunity to live in the moment ... OK?

Anyway ... for your enlightenment out there in the boondocks and hinterlands, the early morning odds to win the 2013 Super Bowl are:

Green Bay Packers - 5-1

As you loyal and faithful readers know ... last night’s scheduled entertainment event was THE MOST HAPPY FELLA @ 8:00pm at the NYU Skirball Center in The Village. Was really looking forward to this show.

I guess it was around 7:00pm when I left PHC and headed over to The Port Authority Bus Terminal to catch a train down to The Village. It is only a 4 stop trip and I made great time. As usual, I played a bit of solitaire on my iPhone.

Leisurely walked from the subway station to the venue and I estimate it was around 7:30 when I got there. It was a bit chilly but tolerable.

Decided I would go on inside the venue even though it was a bit earlier than I usually do ... so ... I took out my iPhone to check my messages and emails and ... then ...

OMFG!! The iPhone was 100% dead. OMFG!! I had recharged it before leaving the apartment, as I always do. Punched buttons and even shook it ... nothing ... OMFG!! It was dead. I had my recharger-battery system with me, so I took it out of my backpack and plugged it in, hoping that perhaps it would jump-start the iPhone back into operation.

Nothing!! Nada!! Zilch!! OMFG!!

Now I knew I had a serious problem. The issue was ... do I simply ignore it and go on inside for my event and then try to “fix” it when I get back to PHC after the 2+ hour show ... or ... do I run down to The Apple Store further downtown in SoHo, at Prince and Broome, and see if they can fix it for me?

Damn ... I really wanted to see this show ... but I also knew that if I went inside I would have extreme difficulty focusing on the show because of my concern over the status of my iPhone.

Now ... I have to say to you loyal and faithful readers ... to those of you who don’t have iPhones ... I know you can’t understand why I was so bent-out-of-shape ... but ... those of you in the iPhone Universe truly understand and identify with my conundrum.

Well ... Billi Pod headed south to SoHo at a brisk pace. Then ... OMFG!! When I got down to The Apple Store location I learned for the first time that it was closed for renovation. Man ... why was Billi Pod being punished like this? OMFG!!

Then ... I noticed the sign that said there was a temporary location about 2 blocks further south ... so off I went.

Found the temporary location and went up to a nice young man wearing all of the usual Apple gear and explained my problem to him ... or rather ... my iPhone’s problem. When he told me that all of the technicians were booked until 3:00am my heart virtually stopped pumping ... but ...

He said ... “I’m not a technician, of course ... but let me see your phone for a minute.” I gave it to him and he did a procedure which he called a “butt-kick” which involved holding down two buttons ... and ... presto ... the Apple logo lit up and the phone was alive again ...

We talked briefly about what it would entail to get a new phone immediately and I decided that I wouldn’t do it just then ... but ... trust me ... a new phone is just around the corner.

I thanked him profusely and left the store ... it was 8:15 and I had missed my show. Damn!!

I wasn’t in a mood to head back to the apartment, so I walked over to the Spring Street subway station and caught a train back to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and went to one of the mega-plex movie theaters and got a $9.50 senior ticket to see the recently released movie CHRONICLE.

CHRONICLE is about “three teenage boys who accidentally gain superpowers, with one of them becoming a destructive megalomaniac.”

Had about a 30 minute wait until the previews began so I spent the time playing solitaire on my now operational iPhone. (It is still functional as I write this posting)

The show has received generally good reviews and I enjoyed it a lot and have no problem recommending it to you loyal and faithful readers.

So ... that was yesterday’s entertainment event ... finally ...

Today’s entertainment event is ...

7:30==>THE CONFUSIONS OF YOUNG TORLESS - “In an elite late 19th century Austrian military school four adolescent boys become enmeshed in a dangerous rite of passage.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket).

Yes ... I know ... sounds like a bit of a downer doesn’t it? But, it is playing at The Looking Glass Theater on West 57th Street and I usually like the stuff they do there ... so we will see ...

Ending on a sad note ... my longtime friend and fraternity brother Joe Heyck of Tampa, FL, died on February 2nd. He was 76.

Joe and I go way way back to the University of Florida where we were both, at the same time, members of: Kappa Alpha Order; Florida Blue Key; and the University of Florida Hall of Fame.

Joe had a long and distinguished career with the Tampa-based law firm of Allen, Dell, Frank, and Trinkle. He is survived by: his wife of 47 years, Marilyn; two children; and 4 grandchildren.

Another Eclectic Entertainment Doubleheader For Billi Pod

What a beautiful fall day in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

Terrific weather for the New York City Marathon as multi-thousands of runners embark on a 26.2 miles adventure loaded with sweat, unimaginable aches and pain, frustration and then euphoria at the finish-line. How do I know this you are no doubt breathlessly (pun intended) asking?

Well my loyal and faithful readers, need I remind you that Billi Pod (not his name back then) ran in, and finished both the 1978 and the 1979 marathons? Before you nonbelievers begin to scoff==>I have pictures to prove it.

When I finished the 1978 marathon I remember thinking that I didn’t know you could have so much pain and still be alive. Truthfully, I hadn’t done the proper amount of training. I honestly don’t remember my exact time, I think it was in the late 5 hours. I vowed to train better and run again in 1979 and to have a better finish time.

And, I did and guess what ... my time in ‘79 was virtually same as ‘78 because I developed serious leg cramping at the 20 mile mark, in The Bronx, and thought that I wouldn’t be able to finish. Well, I did but only with a lot of running-walking-running in the final 6.2 miles.

The nice thing ... this 77 year old guy can say this about The New York City Marathon==>”Been There, Done That - Twice.”

Now, on to other things ... like ...

Billi Pod’s report card on GODSPELL==>A<==as in Awesome!

A great cast, headed by Hunter Parrish as Jesus. The energy and enthusiasm of the cast swept over the audience, seated “In the Round.” Just before the show started I counted 12 empty seats and they may have been filled after the show started. Yes, the audience was 100% into the show.

My seat was awesome, a single seat by itself in the 3rd row, on the aisle, directly in front of one of the guitar players and right next to an area where the actors gathered off-stage. I actually had visual interaction with several of them, including Hunter Parrish.

It was a wonderful evening’s entertainment and Billi Pod doesn’t understand the negative carping on some of the theater chat boards. Get real people!

Folks, if you want to have fun, laugh, sigh, smile and enjoy ... see this show!!!

When the show was over I raced back to PHC to catch the final half of the LSU/’BAMA game, won by LSU in overtime. It was a very exciting game to watch. I was pulling for ‘Bama because The Bill is a huge ‘Bama fan. For some reason it seems that I can cheer for his teams but he never can for mine ... go figure. I guess this is just the many roles in being a father.

And, speaking of my teams ... yes, The Gators won their game over Vandy but folks ... Vandy hasn’t won a game at The Swamp since 1941, yep, that’s the correct date.

Yes, there was actually angst, worry, fear and dread among Gator fans about the possibility of losing to a program derisively known around the SEC as the "Commode Doors."

Without a doubt, the Gators are struggling. Coach Muskrat’s team is disturbingly devoid of quality talent and depth and we will get our butts kicked by both South Carolina and Half Ass U.

Billi Pod predicts the future to be==>we will eke out a win over Furman to become bowl-eligible, accept an invitation to The Outhouse Bowl where we will play North Dakota State Junior College, winning 6-3 in triple overtime.

Yep ... just remember where you read it first.

Now about today ... Billi Pod has yet another eclectic entertainment doubleheader ...

Yeah, I know ... but ... the advance buzz on this show has been very favorable.

The ALDS Moves To Detroit

Well, my loyal and faithful readers, yesterday afternoon Yankee bats went dead and we lost 5-3 to Detroit in a game that we could-have/should-have won.

We were again plagued with our season-long inability to get clutch hits with men in scoring position. As you know, I have written about this problem time and again, from the very beginning of the season.

And, of course, it rained during a crucial part of the game. At least Billi Pod was in the cozy confines of PHC.

Game 3 of the series will be at 8:37pm tonight in Detroit and the two aces, CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander will face one another again. It should be a nail biting low scoring game.

But, folks, here is the terrifying event on the horizon==>the starter for Game 4, in what will be the most important game of the season, will be ... tada ... gasp ... puke ... AJ Burnett aka Loser Boi.

Depending of the outcome of tonight’s game Loser Boi will be either pitching to: (1) clinch the Division Series for us, or (2) save our butts from elimination and send it back to The Bronx for Game 5 on Thursday.

OMFG!! How can the season come down to this? The least dependable pitcher on the staff is given the responsibility to make or break the season. Not fair Baseball Gods, not fair at all.

Anyway ...

After the game Billi Pod needed to get out of PHC so he caught a movie ...

50/50, a dramatic comedy about a 27yr. old guy dealing with a cancer diagnosis that is potentially life-ending.

It is actually a goodhearted film about a difficult topic. The show maneuvers between jokes and drama with surprising finesse.

Joseph Gordan-Levitt gives an Oscar worthy performance and Seth Rogen is Seth Rogen, in a good way. Folks, see this movie. Don’t be put off by the story line. Trust me ... you will laugh and you will cry ... yes, guys, you will too. SEE IT!!

Tonight I will, of course, stay in and watch the YANKEES/DETROIT game. John Scott Reed will join me and we will have pizza and wings during the game.

I’m sorry, my loyal and faithful readers, but Billi Pod is finding it difficult to focus on the upcoming GATORS/LSU game on Saturday @ 3:30pm on CBS. Our starting QB is out and we will have to rely on a true-freshman against probably the best team in college football. The potential consequences are horrific, to say the least. But the important thing to remember is that ...

Billi Pod Is Pissed Off With Billi Pod!!

Yes, Billi Pod is pissed off with himself. Why? Well ... listen up ...

Yesterday, a few minutes after 7:00pm, as Billi Pod was about to walk out of PHC to head out to Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, he received a text message from a season ticket buddy who was already at the Stadium. The guy said it was pouring and that the game, if played, would be delayed at least 2 hours.

Billi Pod immediately went to the tube and the announcers on YES were doing their pregame under umbrellas and opining that we would be lucky to get the game in due to the predicted non-stop rain. Of course, the tarp was on covering the infield.

Billi Pod took a deep breath and decided that he would stay in. The key factors in this decision were that, as you loyal and faithful readers know, his seat is out in the open and unprotected from the elements, and he knew that the game was a total sell out, meaning no seats would be available beneath an overhang.

So Billi Pod took another deep breath and settled in to watch the 8:00pm GATORS/’BAMA game on CBS. When the Gators scored on the first play of the game Billi Pod knew he had made the right decision, but ...

At 8:30 he switched to TBS to get an update on the status of The Yankee game and was shocked ... and I do indeed mean ... shocked ... to find out that the game was about to begin. The tarp was off. No rain.

OMFG!! Friday they had predicted no rain and==>rain. Saturday they predicted rain and==>no rain. WTF!! Well, nothing he could do because the decision had been made and he had to live with it ...

As you know, it turned out to be a lousy decision because The Gators suffered an ass-whipping, losing to ‘Bama 10-38. Our defense could not contain their running game led by Trent Richardson, who was a human tank.

Our QB, John Brantley, left the game just before halftime with a leg injury. As I post this his status unknown.

It was extremely frustrating toggling between the two games. It highlighted the difference in the pace between the two sports.

The Yankees won the “suspended” game 9-3 behind an excellent performance from rookie Ivan Nova and the bat of Robby Cano, who hit a grand slam in the 6th inning.

As stated earlier, in the name of fair and unbiased reporting, Billi Pod must admit that he is still pissed off with himself over his decision not to head out to the stadium. Had he done so he would have been a part of an exciting victory and missed the horror of witnessing the Gator’s destruction in The Swamp in the second half of the game.

Anyway ...

This afternoon @ 3:07 is Game 2, with Freddy Garcia on the mound. This was supposed to be a travel day but the bad weather on Friday took care of that. Unfortunately, this year my season ticket package did not include this game, so Billi Pod will be in front of the tube. The weather is excellent.

Tonight I probably will catch a movie, either MONEY BALL or 50/50.

The Weather Gods Are Obviously Pissed Off!!

Man, The Weather Gods stuck it to MLB and Yankee/Tiger fans last night, as you loyal and faithful readers know. What have we done to piss them off so much? What!!

Billi Pod headed out to Yankee Stadium, The House The Greed And Ego Built, around 7:15pm. The subways weren’t too crowded and that was a pleasant change. It was, however, very cloudy when he got out of the subway station in The Bronx.

As he had predicted, almost all of his season ticket buddies were in their usual seats and everyone was really happy and charged for the beginning of the post season and our journey toward our 28th World Series Championship.

CC looked sharp, although he gave up a HR that just barely cleared the right field wall. Verlander didn’t appear to be quite as sharp and the Yankees tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.

It began to lightly rain - no matter because Billi Pod had brought his wind-jacket and poncho. As usual, he had problems getting into the poncho due to the wind, much to the amusement of his buddies. No, guys, I am not, repeat ... not retarded.

In the top of the 2nd inning it really began to pour. It was miserable, to put it mildly. The umpiring crew let CC complete the inning and then they called out the ground crew to put the tarp on the infield. It was pouring. Yuck!!

Well, long long story made somewhat shorter -- after about a 80 minute wait the game was “suspended” meaning ... it will be “resumed” at 8:37pm tonight. Only ticket holders for the Friday game will be allowed into the stadium tonight. The originally scheduled Saturday game will now be played at 3:07pm on Sunday, which was supposed to be a travel day.

Make no mistake about it ... there will be utter chaos and confusion at the ticket gates tonight even though MLB has sent out emails and The Yankees have made robo-phone calls this morning to everyone with tickets to either game.

When the game is “resumed” Ivan Nova will be on the mound for The Bronx Bombers. What the final impact of this delay will be is still very uncertain because the rotation is now in total disorder, for both teams.

There is even speculation in the local papers that ... gasp ... AJ Burnett aka Loser Boi will now get the opportunity to start in Game 4. Man, how cruel would that be?

Anyway ...

Yes, Billi Pod will be at The Stadium tonight. The Weather Gods solved his dilemma over having to toggle between the Yankees game and the GATORS/’BAMA game.

On a more positive note==>how ‘bout them Rays? Man, they kicked butt big time last night.

Also on a positive note==>GOODBYE TERRY FRANCONA!!

Yes, the FuckSox and their manager have parted ways. I guess the fact that he took them to two World Series Championships was somehow overlooked or unimportant. Oh well ... seeya later Terry. We will miss you - NOT!!

Billi Pod Says==>GO GATORS!!

Billi Pod’s thoughts on yesterday’s Gator/Vols game, won by my Gators 33-23 in The Swamp ...

Make no mistake about it, the win was fueled by an incredible game from Chris Rainey, who incidentally is from Lakeland, FL, who finished with 108 yards rushing, 104 yards receiving, 1 touchdown and a blocked punt that led to a field goal.

It was enough to overshadow an offense that again struggled in the red zone and a lack of discipline that led to 150 yards on 16 penalties, including 5 pass interference calls.

Bottom-line==>It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win is a win.

Next up on the schedule are the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, KY @ 7:00pm this coming Saturday.

Hopefully we will continue to improve.

Next up ...

In the Yankee’s 7-6 win over Toronto yesterday afternoon our closer Mariano Rivera recorded his 601st save, tying him with the all-time leader Trevor Huffmon.

This win and Boston’s loss to The Rays increase our lead over The FuckSox to 5 games in the loss column.

This afternoon is the final game of the Toronto series with Freddy Garcia on the mound.

Next up ...

Billi Pod’s report card on THE LEMON SKY==>A<==Keith Nobbs is outstanding in an extremely difficult role.

The rest of the cast is also stellar. Story line, involving yet again another dysfunctional family, is challenging to follow - Lanford Wilson at his best.

Excellent theater. See it!!

Yes, Billi Pod Was A Sports Couch Potato==>Live With It!!

Good evening my loyal and faithful readers out there in the vastness known as cyberspace.

Even though this posting is a bit late in the day (dammit ... wipe that smile off your face Topher ... I know where you are) it none-the-less will reflect what has gone on in Billi Pod’s world here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, since the last posting on Saturday morning.

The bottom line is that Billi Pod had a great couch potato sports doubleheader yesterday. Yes, couch potato==>just live with it dammit ... live with it!!

The Yankees won their afternoon game in a nail-biter, 6-4 behind a clutch hit from Robinson Cano.

It was an excellent ball game and we maintained our 1/2 game lead over The Boston FuckSox in the AL East race.

After the game was over I had time for a 2-mile walk session and that felt really good because Billi Pod had gotten a bit antsy.

Then, as you know, The Gators won the first game of the Will Muschamp Era with a 41-3 ass-whipping of Florida Atlantic University.

I thought John Brantley looked comfortable in Florida’s revamped offense. Chris Rainey had an excellent game, scoring in three different ways.

Yes, I know that the FAU program is just barely above the High School level but Billi Pod had a very good feeling about the team when the game was over. The Gators have a very tough schedule ahead of them and all I want out of them this year is to be competitive and to maintain our dignity as the Muschamp program is being built.

God, I spent so much time in front of the tube ... why? ... because Billi Pod is a mega-huge college football fan and he will watch games involving teams he has no connection with, just for the game. Not the same with pro-football, at least not until the last weeks of the season when the Super Bowl match-ups are being determined.

This afternoon was yet another game at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed and Ego Built ...

1:05==>YANKEES/TORONTO, with our ace CC Sabathia on the mound as the Yankees go for the series sweep.

It was in the mid-80s and very very humid with very little breeze. Actually pretty uncomfortable, truth-be-told. Again, none of my regular season seat mates were there.

The Yankees won 9-3. CC pitched a very good game, going 7 1/3 innings, giving up only 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 10. He won his 19th game. The Bronx Bombers continue to hit the long-ball, with Jeter, A-Rod, and Swisher going yard. It was a very exciting and enjoyable game to watch.

This win and the FuckSox 11-4 loss to Texas increases our lead in the AL East to 1 1/2 games, 2 in the loss column.

Also, it put their record for Billi Pod games finally over .500, 18 wins and 17 losses. About f**king time!!

On the subway ride back to Manhattan I got off at the Columbus Circle station and walked back to PHC, a distance of little over a mile.

It is early evening and I toyed with the idea of going to a movie but I doubt that will happen.

What about tomorrow? Well ...

Tomorrow is ...tada ... more baseball ...

This game is an exchange game so I won’t be in my usual seat. It will be in the same general location, only on the 3rd base side of the stadium, and, it will be in the first row, meaning ... in the sun ... I will take my sunscreen, of course.

In closing==>at the bottom of this posting you will see ALEX-11. This represents the number of days since my grandson, Alex Falletta, left Ft. Hood, TX, to begin his deployment overseas. I will post the number of days in all subsequent blog and FaceBook postings until he safely returns home to his wife, Gina, and their daughter, and to the rest of his family and friends.

Some Downtime & Univ. of Florida Makes Another Top Ten List

Well, my loyal and faithful readers, yesterday was the usual errands and stuff day and that was about it for Billi Pod.

What am I talking about you are no doubt breathlessly asking out there in the vastness of cyberspace ... WTF does he mean by ... “that was about it”...?

Well, what he means is that nothing showed up on any of his ticket services so he opted to stay in and watch the 8:00pm YANKEES/WHITE SOX game.

Yep, Billi Pod admits, in the name of fair and unbiased reporting, that he felt he needed a bit of “downtime” following his weekend double-doubleheader, so he spent the evening in front of the tube.

In doing so he broke a string of 41 consecutive days/nights of attending some entertainment event. Yes, even Billi Pod needs an occasional bit of “downtime” to rest, recharge and refuel, so don’t judge him, OK?

It was a very exciting game. The Yankees won 3-2 with a journeyman outing by our ace CC Sabathia, who won his 16th game even though he wasn’t as sharp as he had been in the last several starts.

The FuckSox lost so we are only 1 game behind in the AL East.

Tonight is game 2 of the 4 game series against The White Sox with Phil Hughes on the mound. If Hughes doesn’t have a better outing than his last two games he will probably (rightfully) lose his spot in the rotation to Ivan Nova.

Tonight’s entertainment event is ...

I have serious misgivings about this show, in previews, because every one of my theatre-nut friends who have seen it have HATED IT!! We will see.
