Monday==>Sorry for the delay in today’s posting but your favorite blogger just got back from having blood drawn for a “routine” test in advance of his “routine” doctor's appointment scheduled for next Monday morning. Won’t bore you with any more details, other than to assure you loyal and faithful readers and followers that it really is “routine.”
So ... let’s get started with Billi Pod's report cards on yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader ... starting with ...
A MIND BENDING EVENING OF BECKETT, 3 short plays that explore the landscape of the human condition in absurdist, minimalist style==>WTF?
Yeah ... WTF? because this veteran theatergoer had no fucking idea what was happening on stage at the small Studio Theatre in The Irish Repertory Theater on West 22nd Street.
It was 3 plays that were each mind-numbing. The first was a single puppet, with no dialogue. The second lasted about 60 seconds when the curtain opened to a cluttered stage and then closed. The third was 3 heads spewing out rapid-fire virtually incomprehensible dialogue.
Thank God it was only a little over an hour in length, with one rather brief intermission.
Maybe someone smarter than me will get it ... I certainly didn’t ... so ...
It runs through December lst.
Billi Pod says==>you are hereby warned.
When the show was over I leisurely walked over to the Eastside where I found a coffee shop for some coffee and something sweet ... and ... then it was time for my second show, that I ended up seeing with Dian Crystal aka My Lady ...
LIES MY FATHER TOLD ME, a coming-of-age musical that follows three generations of a Jewish immigrant family living in Montreal during the 1920s==>A
I thought the acting was outstanding, especially Alex Drier as the Younger David and Chuck Karel as Zaida, the Grandfather. The rest of the cast was excellent, not a weak spot in it.
The story line is very interesting and emotionally involving. It comes close to being an opera because much of the story line is developed via the song lyrics.
The whole production is a very enjoyable entertainment event.
Billi Pod says==>see this if you can.
My Lady also liked it very much and she gave it an A.
It has a running time of 2:00, with intermission, is playing at The Baruch Performing Arts Center on East 25th Street and runs though December 14th.
Moving on to today ...
I have something TOTALLY AWESOME scheduled for tonight ...
What is it, I know you are all breathlessly asking your inner selves? Well, inner selves, it is an early Christmas present from me to Billi Pod ... get ready ... tada ... here it is ...
8:00==>THE EAGLES @ Madison Square Garden - “Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit - will perform classics spanning their career.” (full price ticket)
I scored an excellent but expensive seat to the 3rd performance. They performed on Friday and Saturday to sold-out houses and the reviews have been totally positive.
I love The Eagles and have seen them perform at least 6 times, probably more.
Can hardly wait.
In closing==>We must never forget the brave men and women who have protected and defended this great country of ours over the years. A special shout-out to you Army Guy aka Alex Falletta.
