Thursday==>So much to write about today ... so ... let’s get started with Billi Pod’s weather update.
It started snowing last night around 2:00am and continued through the night and into the morning. As I am writing this posting it is noonish and the snow has stopped but it is now lightly raining. The current temperature is 33º, wind chill 21º.
A combination of snow and rain is forecast into the mid-evening hours.
As might be expected the combination of snow and rain has turned the sidewalks, intersections and crosswalks into a mess, and that is putting it mildly.
Last night, in anticipation of the after-effects of the snow and rain, Billi Pod opted to cancel his scheduled show at a venue way downtown in the East Village. The theater is at least 3/4 mile from the subway station and he knew from past experience that walking to and from that station in snow and ice can be really dangerous.
Yes ... last night Billi Pod exercised caution ... something that is extremely difficult for him to do ... and ... and ...
Oh ... WTF! ... just go ahead and admit it you scum-bag ... gasp ... just a few minutes ago you scheduled another show for tonight ... yep ... so much for reason and caution ... details will be below ... so hold off before becoming totally judgmental ... OK ...
So ... let’s move on to Billi Pod's report card on last night's entertainment event, the Broadway revival of ...
There is amazing acting from McKellen, Stewart, Billy Crudup and Shuler Hensley.
The basic story line is, I think: Spooner (McKellen), a shabby, self-styled poet finds himself in the baronial digs of Hirst (Stewart), an eminent man of letters. Spooner tries to ingratiate himself into the employment of his newfound, wealthy friend, who is being protected by his staff, consisting of Crudup and Hensley.
Now, folks, I have to admit that just as with “Waiting for Godot,” playing in repertory with this show, I have no fucking clue what the playwright was getting at.
I found the following quote online and it pretty much sums it up ...
“Trying to figure out a Pinter play is like pounding nails in your skull. Trying to figure out a Beckett play is like using a drill.”
Why does it earn an A? Simple==>McKellen, Stewart, Crudup and Hensley.
Billi Pod says==>if you love theatre then see this show. If not, then maybe you should save your money.
It is playing at the Cort Theatre (not one of my favorite venues) on West 48th Street, has a running time of 2:00, with intermission, and runs through March 29th.
Moving on to tonight ...
This is the show I just scheduled for tonight ...
8:00==>MURDER FOR TWO - “Everyone is a suspect. One actor (Brett Ryback) investigates the crime, the other (Jeff Blumenkrantz) plays all of the suspects and they both play the piano! A zany blend of classic musical comedy and madcap mystery, loaded with killer laughs.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket)
This show has received mostly glowing reviews, is playing at New World Stages on West 50th Street, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through July 6th.
Why did I book this show after canceling my originally scheduled show? Easy ... first, I learned that my theater-buddy Marty Kosarik aka Whatever had a ticket for this performance and, second, I can get to this venue by taking the E train one stop up to 50th Street, meaning, very little exposure to the elements.
OK, OK ... I admit that there is probably a third reason ... and that is ... Billi Pod is just an egocentric stupid asshole ... so ... there ... satisfied?
Moving on to some sports ... just for you Marty ...
As many of you loyal and faithful readers and followers know, the Yankee Universe was jolted by the announcement that The Captain, Derek Jeter, will retire at the end of the upcoming season, ending his career as a Bronx Bomber and closing the book on the Core Four (Jeter, Posada, Pettitte and Rivera).
These are the headlines in the local papers ...

While I will hate to see him go, I applaud that he is leaving on his own terms and it will be in style, of that I am certain.
So ...
STAY WARM EVERYONE!!
