Saturday==>It is a bright but cold morning here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. At 10:30am the temperature is 40º, wind chill 31º, with winds at 15 mph. The forecast is for it to get steadily colder and the overnight low is predicted to be in the high 20s. Light snow is also in the forecast for tomorrow night ... burrrrrrr.
Oh, well ... winter is just around the corner as “they” say, so ... what are you to expect if you live in the Northeast ... right?
Moving on ...
Had a very interesting back-to-back doubleheader last night at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, which is just steps away from my apartment building.
Both shows are produced by IAMA Theatre Company, based in Los Angeles. The first show was ...
DO IT LIKE THE KIDS DO, Claire returns home for Christmas determined to reconnect with her big brother Patrick==>A
It is extremely well performed, with a cast of 4 very talented actors. The story line is interesting as it explores who we really are and the choices we are faced with that will impact our lives forever.
Billi Pod says==>it is worth seeing.
It is playing at The Studio Theatre at The Theatre Row Complex, on West 42nd Street, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through December 15th.
Interesting side note ...
As I was waiting outside the theater entrance for the beginning of the show, who came out but none other than ... tada ... Jesse Eisenberg. Wow! As he passed me I asked him how his reading had gone Thursday night at The Drama Book Store. He stopped and then told me it had gone well and that he was surprised at how many people showed up.
I told him that I had been there but was unable to get a seat and he said that he was sorry. He told me to enjoy my show and then he got on the elevator and left.
Wow!! Small world.
My second show, at the same venue, was ...
SHINER, in 1994 two outcast teens make a pact to die happy - see Nirvana at the Hollywood Bowl and then jump off the 101 overpass together==>A-
This show was also well performed. The two 13 1/2 year old characters are played by two adults and that took a bit of getting used to at first but the dialogue is totally from the mouths of angry teenagers.
The story line is extremely disturbing as it deals with heavy issues such as: alienation, teenage angst, bullying, obsession, suicide and drugs. The two characters spend most of the time screaming/yelling at each other and the world in general.
The audience was very much into the production and involved with the journey of these two hard-to-like characters.
I also think it could use about a 10-minute trimming.
Having said all of this ... Billi Pod says==>it is worth seeing.
The show is playing in repertory with DO IT LIKE THE KIDS DO, has a running time of 1:30, without intermission, and runs through December 14th.
Yeah, I have to admit to being somewhat emotionally drained when the second show was over, around 10:30. Also, my butt was a bit sore since the seating in The Studio Theatre is chairs, without any padding.
OK ... moving on ...
At 1:00pm this afternoon I will meet up with my buddies Dian Crystal aka My Lady and Marty Kosarik aka Whatever for lunch at our favorite Ethiopian restaurant, Meske, on West 47th Street in my Hell’s Kitchen ‘hood.
It has been awhile since we have been together. Marty has just returned from 3 weeks in Hawaii, 2 weeks on his own and 1 week with family members, so we are looking forward to being brought up-to-date.
When lunch is over I will come back to the warm and cozy confines of PHC and settle in to watch college football for the rest of the day/evening ...
4:00==>SEC CHAMPIONSHIP: Auburn vs. Missouri on CBS. I don’t care who wins this because I hate Tigers.
8:00==>BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP: Michigan State vs. Ohio State on Fox. Go Buckeyes ... I still like Urban Meyer.
8:00==>ACC CHAMPIONSHIP: Florida State vs. Duke on CBS. Go FSU!! (this is for you Sandy Mullon)
Moving on ...
Have lots to report on the Yankee scene regarding off-season trades and signings. Will do so tomorrow.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE.
