Thursday==>It is a gray day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, and it has been lightly raining most of the morning. Oh well ...
Your favorite blogger is happy to report that yesterday was another outstanding day ... so, my loyal and faithful readers and followers ... let’s get started with ...
Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show ...
BLINK, against the lonely backdrop of London the worlds of two shy individuals, Jonah and Sophie, collide and a charming, delicate and darkly funny love story unfolds before your eyes==>A
A totally enjoyable evening.
While the basic premise of how Jonah and Sophie initially make “contact” is a bit unbelievable, the story line none-the-less quickly transforms the underlying themes of loneliness, grief, fantasy and voyeurism into a tender and lovable emotional adventure.
It does not, repeat, does not, however, become a predictable rom/com.
The two young actors, Thomas Pickles and Lizzy Watts, are outstanding.
Billi Pod says==>See this show, you won’t be sorry.
The show, part of the Brits Off Broadway Festival, just opened, is playing at the 59E59 Theatre Complex on East 59th Street, one of my favorite venues, has a running time of 1:22, without intermission, and runs through June 29th.
When the show was over I subwayed back to the apartment and watched the final innings of the YANKEES/OAKLAND game (details below).
And then ...
At 10:45pm I met up with Jim Case and his wife, Janice, of Clearwater, FL, at Joe Allen on Restaurant Row on West 46th Street.
Jim and Janice were in The City on a whirlwind visit following their trip to Bermuda to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They had just seen A Raisin in the Sun, starring Denzel Washington, and totally loved it.
As I posted yesterday, Jim and I go way way back as trial judges and we both are former Chairman of The Florida Conference of Circuit Judges.
Jim opted to retire at age 60, just as I did, and he totally loves "retirement." He and Janice spend a lot of their time traveling and living in their second home in Whitefish, Montana. In fact, next week they will head out to Montana, not returning to Florida until late September.
We, of course, had a lot of catching up to do and the time just flew by.
So ... Jim and Janice==>it was great being with you guys.
On this very positive note let’s now move on to ...
Tonight’s entertainment event, the Broadway show ...
8:00==>IF/THEN - “A contemporary musical that follows two distinct story lines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in this city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth’s life splits into two parallel paths, that are followed simultaneously.” (Broadway -discounted TDF ticket)
The incomparable Idina Menzel, of WICKED fame, is joined by an all-star cast including Anthony Rapp and LaChanze.
It opened to generally favorable reviews, is playing at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 46th Street, has a running time of 2:35, with intermission, and is an open run.
Now ... some sports ...
First of all ... yesterday the baseball world lost an iconic legend when DON ZIMMER died, at age 83.
These are the headlines in today’s sports sections ...
“HIS LIFE WAS A ZIM DANDY - Beloved Zimmer dead at 83, saw & did it all in baseball.” - The Daily News
“GOODBYE, ZIM - Baseball icon dies after 66 years in game he loved.” - The NY Post
“A Lifer Who Stood Up for His Players and His Teams.” - New York Times
Yes, he will indeed be missed.
This loss was made even bitterer by The Wankies (29-29) puke inducing 7-4 loss to The Oakland Athletics (37-22) as The Wankies blew a 4-run lead. Barf!!
This afternoon @ 1:05pm out at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed and Ego Built, will be the final game of the 3-game series. We hope to avoid a sweep as our ace Masahiro Tanaka (8-1) faces Drew Pomeranz (5-2).
On this happy note, will end this posting and get ready to watch the game ...
Total mileage for 2014==>582.02 miles (average 3.75 miles per day)
GO YANKEES!!
