Monday==>HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY to everyone out there in the morass known as cyberspace.
Have fun, but remember, if you have to puke it’s best to do it on a stranger rather than on one of your drinking buddies ... jus sayin’
Unfortunately, it is yet another gray and cold day here in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World. Yes ... at 10:00am it is only 27º, with wind chill it is down to 15º.
It is also very windy which will make the St. Patrick’s Day Parade pretty unpleasant. Am I going to join the teeming masses along the parade route? No f**king way. Two reasons==>(1) been-there/done-that; and, (2) I have been boycotting it because of their long standing ban on the use of banners identifying groups as gay.
So ... let’s move on to more important things ... like ...
Your favorite blogger’s report card on last night’s Off Broadway show ...
AUTOBAHN, Neil LaBute's provocative new collection of five one-act plays, each set within the confines of the front seat of an automobile, explore the ethos of perception and relationships==>B+
I found this show to be thought-provoking, emotionally challenging and very well performed.
My only quibble with the show is that each one of the one-acts had a lot of yelling, screaming and latent anger and that got kinda old after awhile.
The house was full and we gave the performers a roaring ovation at curtain call.
It was playing at the The Tank Theatre on West 46th Street, had a running time of 1:20, without intermission, and last night was the final performance.
I am so glad that I got to see it before it closed.
At the moment, tonight’s entertainment event is a staged reading way downtown ...
8:00==>BETWEEN THE SANDBAR AND THE SHORE - “Set in 1981 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, it follows two families who must face down the pull of their addictions and the ghosts that plague their love nests, and in the end, the fatal lengths two mothers will go to for the sake of protecting their young.” (Off Broadway - free ticket)
This is the final reading of the Amoralist Theatre Company series at Walkerspace on Walker Street in TriBeCa.
If something a bit “lighter” shows up on one of my ticket services then I will cancel this ... so ... stay tuned.
As most of you loyal and faithful readers and followers know, yesterday afternoon my Florida Gators won a one-point nail-biter over Kentucky, 61-60, to win the SEC Tournament and extending our winning streak to 26 games. Man, for me, this was a tough game to watch.
Anyway ... we are the Number One seed for the upcoming NCAA Basketball Tournament. On Thursday at 4:10pm we will play the winner of the Albany (18-4)/Mt. St. Mary’s (16-16) game. The game will be carried on TBS.
All we need to do is win 6 more games. No problem for BillyBall ... right?
Moving on some more ...
I want to close this posting by noting that former Florida Governor Reubin Askew died last Thursday, at the age of 85.
He was Florida’s 37th Governor and served from from 1971 to 1979.
Governor Askew was a liberal on racial issues and crusaded for overhauling the state's tax laws, open government, environmental protection, ethics legislation and streamlining the courts.
On a personal note ... I am where I am today because of him.
In 1971 he appointed Oliver Green and me to the just created Magistrate’s Court of Polk County and then in 1974 he appointed me to the 10th Judicial Circuit Court to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Allie Lane. I was sworn in on January 8, 1975 (I served on that court until 12/31/94, when I retired @ age 60).
So ... Governor Askew ... Thank You ... again ... and ... Rest In Peace.
