DOGFIGHT==>A-; WARRIOR CLASS==>B+

It is another beautiful day in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

I am happy to report to you loyal and faithful readers and followers that yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader was exquisite, so let’s get right to the important stuff ... like ... tada ... Billi Pod’s report cards ... first ...

DOGFIGHT, about a group of young Marines headed to ‘Nam in 1963 who engage in a ‘dogfight’ to see who can bring the ugliest girl to a party==>A-

There is a stellar cast, especially the two leads played by Derek Klena and Lindsay Mendez.

The music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are compelling and original and the staging and direction by Joe Mantello is spot-on.

Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, the underlying story line is troubling, resulting in some uneasy moments but the work, taken as a whole, leads to an engrossing and satisfying theater experience. It ain’t no jukebox musical.

So, Billi Pod says==>take a deep breath and see this show.

The second entertainment event for Billi Pod was ...

WARRIOR CLASS, about a rising politician, Julius, whose ghosts from his college days come back to haunt him==>B+

Wow!! Outstanding acting from the 3-person cast, led by David Rasche in the role of a smarmy power-broker.

My main quibble with the show is that the college days transgression(s) don’t seem to be of the magnitude that they would forever scar the ‘alleged’ female 'victim' and bring about her vendetta 20 years later. In the end she just comes across as a mean-spirited bitch who wants to blame everyone else for her less-than-anticipated life after college.

Despite this, Billi Pod says==>see this show.

It was just a few minutes past 9:00pm when the show was over and the weather was very nice, with a breeze, so Billi Pod decided to walk back from the theater, located at 76th Street and Broadway, to his apartment on 42nd Street.

The path back was via West End Avenue, which becomes 11th Avenue at 57th Street.

On the way I listened to game 3 of the YANKEES/OAKLAND series and, Dammit-to-Hell, The Athletics won again, this time by a score of 2-1. Phil Hughes pitched an excellent game, giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits in 7 2/3rds innings but the Wankies bats were dead, as they have been for the entire Oakland series. WTF guys, get with it!!

This afternoon, at 4:05, the Wankies will try to avoid the sweep. Our ace CC Sabathia (10-3) will be on the mound vs. former Yankee Bartolo Colon (6-8).

Billi Pod’s entertainment event for Sunday is ...

3:00==>POP DIES IN VEGAS - “Casper, a one-time pop idol, now only 18 and a ‘has-been,’ decides to fake his own death in order to stay famous forever. All that stands in his way is common sense and a bathtub full of blood.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket).

Now this sounds kinda interesting, doesn’t it? It is playing at a theater at 78th and Broadway, so ...

When the show is over I will walk back to PHC while listening to the YANKEES/OAKLAND game on my trusty but now ancient Walkman.

Hope everyone out there in the hinterlands, wastelands and boondocks is having a great weekend because Billi Pod certainly is.

Yesterday’s Pedometer mileage==>5.15 miles

GO YANKEES AND GO GATORS!!
