Tony Awards - Walking Stats - The Yankees - Billi Pod’s Upcoming Week

Monday==>Sorry about the delay in today’s posting. For whatever reason everything seems to be taking longer today, beginning with the usual morning walk and wander session and then the beginning of my errands and chores list (remember this is Monday, which is Billi Pod’s errands and chores day) ...

Anyway ... here we are ... so ... let’s get started with ...

Billi Pod’s thoughts and observations on last night’s Tony Awards Ceremony ...

Well, honestly, I found the program, as a whole, to be very lackluster. I was especially disappointed with the emcee duo of Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming. I thought they started off well but then their schtick got old pretty fast.

I also thought that the In Memoriam ceremony left a lot to be desired. For one thing ... it was difficult to read the fast scrolling so-called tributes ... and ... why have a performance at all? Why not just make the presentation with music in the background? ‘jus askin ...

I have no major quibble with any of the winners although my predictions were off this year.

Yeah, I made 9 predictions but only won 5 --

Best Play - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time;

Best Revival of a Musical - The King and I;

Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play - Alex Sharp;

Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical - Kelli O'Hara; and,

Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical - Christian Borle

Was really happy that Alex Sharp won. His was the only acceptance speech that I actually listened to. Yep ... as is Billi Pod’s custom at the Oscars and the Tonys ... I hit the mute button during acceptance speeches.

Moving on ...

In looking back over the past week it is obvious to me that the highlight was my extended walk and wander sessions in and around my Winter Park Village ‘hood. 

These are the AWESOME stats --

Monday - 6.64 miles

Tuesday - 6.55 miles

Wednesday - 5.50 miles

Thursday - 6.60 miles

Friday - 5.48 miles

Saturday - 4.71 miles

Sunday - 5.28 miles

Total mileage for the week==>40.76 miles (average 5.82 miles per day)

Yeah, 5.82 miles per day ain't bad for a 81 year old guy, IMHO.

Now ... moving on to the sports scene ... for you Marty ...

Yesterday afternoon at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, the Yankees (32-25) beat the Angels (28-29) 6-2 for our 6th consecutive win and a sweep of the 3-game series.

CC Sabathia won the game even though he gave up back-to-back HRs in the top of the first inning and was ejected from the game at the end of the 6th inning for “arguing with the ump.”

With the win the Yankees remain in first place in the AL East, leading the Rays by 1.5 games.

The Bronx Bombers have today off and then will play the Washington Nationals for a 2-game series, at the Stadium.

Billi Pod’s upcoming week looks like this, so far ...

Tomorrow I am meeting up with my dear friend and former colleague Circuit Judge Gisela Cardonne Ely from Miami, FL, and attorney Ron Hedges from ... gasp ... that plague-ridden province known as New Jersey.

They will come by the apartment for a quick look at my new pad and then we will catch a bite someplace in Winter Park Village. 

Wednesday I am having a “new-patient” appointment with cardiologist Barton Sickinger.

Friday night I have a show at The Breakthrough Theatre.

Will probably catch a movie ... either Entourage or the new Brian Wilson bio-pic Love & Mercy

Out Of Gas On Lover’s Leap - The Yankees - The Belmont Stakes - Billi Pod’s Tony Predictions

Saturday==>We will get today’s posting started with your favorite Sunshine State blogger’s report card on last night’s show ...

OUT OF GAS ON LOVER’S LEAP, on the night of their high-school graduation Myst and Grouper, two bright, well-to-do teenagers, have driven to the local lover's leap for a private celebration. As they drink beer, smoke pot and engage in sharply amusing, yet disheartening, interplay, it becomes increasingly evident that these are two very lost young souls==>Thumbs Up

This comedy/drama is extremely well performed by Alex Bridgeman as Grouper and Allie Novell as Myst, however, I found both of their characters to be totally dislikable and by the end of the show I wanted to just “bitch-slap” each one of them.

The story line is pretty emotionally involving but the climatic ending is not surprising at all ... you can see it coming about 30 minutes into the show.

This was the opening night at The Breakthrough Theatre on West Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park. Unfortunately, for the cast and crew, the audience was very very sparse, which I found to be somewhat surprising.

There are two remaining performances: Saturday night @ 8:00pm; Sunday @ 3:00pm

Billi Pod says==>it is worth seeing.

When I left the apartment for the show it was raining. Fortunately, when the show was over the rain had stopped.

Was back in the apartment in time to watch the final innings of the Yankees/Angels game. 

The Yankees had a comfortable 8-1 lead going into the top of the 9th. Then the Angels staged a 6-run comeback. WTF? We hung on to win by a final score of 8-7. The final inning was really tough to watch.

Tonight at 7:05pm from Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, is the second game of the 3-game series.

On the mound for the Yankees (30-25) will be Adam Warren (3-4) vs. Garrett Richards (5-3) for the Angels (28-27)

Also on the sports scene ... 

I will be pulling for American Pharoah to win the 147th Belmont Stakes and to join the only 11 other horses who won the Triple Crown.

Post time is 6:50pm and it will be carried on NBC.

Moving on ...

In all likelihood for the afternoon and evening I will remain in the cool and comfortable confines of #216 to watch baseball on my 42” flat screen TV.

A Lot Has Happened In One Short Week - Thank You Bill III - Out Of Gas On Lover’s Leap - The Yankees - Tony Predictions

Friday==>It is hard to believe that at this very time one short week ago your favorite blogger was dealing with movers, tons of cardboard boxes, and a cable installer in a bare apartment located on the second floor at Paseo at Winter Park Village, here in The Sunshine State.

WOW! So much has happened in such a short time.

Yesterday afternoon, with the help of Bill III, we completed the last “major” project in making my new apartment feel like home, and that was the hanging of most of my 20 paintings. Actually, The Bill did 95% of the work and for that I am so very thankful.

This is what the living area looks like now ...

I still have to hang paintings in the bedroom and bathroom and that will probably be done tomorrow. I will do this by myself.

The hanging process was begun after we returned from Bill’s annual examination with his cardiologist. He did very well on his stress test and the doctor was pleased with everything.

The doctor, Barton G. Sickinger, was very pleasant and personable so I have scheduled a “new-patient” appointment with him for 10:45am on Wednesday, June 10th. Hopefully my medical records will be faxed to him by that time. His office is located about 2 miles from my apartment.

For the evening I had another major walk and wander session in my ‘hood and then settled in for an evening of baseball. The Yankees had the night off.

The walking stats for the day were pretty AWESOME==>6.60 miles.

This is the opening night for this comedy/drama playing at The Breakthrough Theatre on West Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park.

The venue is a little less than a mile from my apartment and I will, of course, walk to and from the show.

Now ... moving on to the sports scene ... for you Marty, even though you are way up there in The Big Apple.

Tonight at 7:05pm at Yankee Stadium, The House That Greed And Ego Built, the Yankees (29-25) start a 3-game series against the LA Angels (28-26).

On the mound for the Yankees will be Nathan Eovaldi (4-1) vs. Jered Weaver (4-4) for the Angels.

The Yankees remain on top of the AL East by 1-game over the Rays.

Updates From Winter Park Village - Rusty Franklin - ToasterOvenGate

Thursday==>Yes, my loyal and faithful readers and followers, your favorite Sunshine State blogger is alive and well in his brand-new Winter Park Village apartment.

Things continue to go very well for me as I am making the transition from NYC to WPV (Winter Park Village). The apartment is feeling more and more “homelike” and this afternoon I will undertake the last major project, the hanging of my 20 paintings.

I have delayed this until I felt comfortable with the location and placement of the furniture in the living room area.

Bill III will help me with this final chore.

Before we will embark on this project I will go with him for his annual checkup with his cardiologist. Bill wants me to meet his doctor because he knows finding a new cardiologist is number uno on my current to-do list.

Moving on ...

Yes ... I know I haven’t posted and I am sorry for being negligent. Please give me the benefit of your collective forgiveness. Thank You!!

Have spent a lot of time on walking and wandering sessions in my immediate ‘hood in the morning and then in the downtown Winter Park area during the evening.

Have also spent a lot of time in front of my 42” flat screen TV watching baseball. My new cable package provides access to about a dozen games during the afternoon and evening, including, of course, the Yankees games.

Moving on ...

At noon yesterday I met up with my longtime friend, attorney Rusty Franklin of Lakeland, who was in Orlando for an afternoon deposition.

Rusty came by the apartment so I could show him my new pad and then we walked over to The Cheesecake Factory where we had a great lunch and did some much needed/wanted catching up.

A lot has happened in his life ... he is a new grandfather, to Bo, and his wife, Sharon, has just been appointed to the Polk County Court. She officially takes office on Monday.

So ... Rusty==>great seeing you ... and ... Sharon==>Major Congrats!! 

I will close this brief (and boring) posting out with an update on what I now call “ToasterOvenGate.” 

As you will recall my toaster oven didn’t survive the trip down and after screwing up in a attempt to replace it at Home Deport (via Uber) I fell back to Amazon, where I ordered a replacement online.

Well, yesterday the building’s maintenance supervisor came to the apartment to address an issue with the shower handle, which he quickly corrected.

We had a nice conversation about some of the problems in moving into a new building. He was looking around the kitchen area and said ... “you see what I mean, you haven’t activated the four outlets in the rear of the counter space. This happens almost everytime management forgets to let maintenance come along for the apartment walk-thru.”

He then punched a very very small button on one of the outlets and said ... “OK, now you are ready to go.”

WTF, thought I ... these were the outlets that I plugged the toaster oven into and, it failed to turn on from any of them ... OMG ... WTF?? Could it be that the real problem was a lack of power?

As soon as the maintenance guy left I raced down to the trash closet and ... my toaster oven was still there. Brought it back ... plugged it in ... and ... on came the red light. It was working!!!

But ... my new toaster oven was scheduled to be shipped by Amazon on Friday. WTF! 

Immediately went online and ... was able to cancel everything and get a complete refund (actually, they hadn’t billed my account yet). WHEW!!

Now ... isn’t this whole episode totally weird? I mean ... who is trying to tell me what?
