Good afternoon to all of you loyal and faithful readers out in the wilderness, hinterlands and boondocks who have been calling tech service to repair your internet devices on the assumption that they are malfunctioning because you could not find a Billi Pod Blogs posting for Wednesday.

I am also aware that some of you made reports to the Missing Person’s Bureau as I had requested in Tuesday’s posting.

Well ... in response to the flood of emails and texts ... some of them rather snarky ... Billi Pod must say ...

Mea Culpa! Mea CULPA!! MEA CULPA!!!

And for your education==>Mea Culpa is a Latin phrase that translates into English as "my mistake" or "my fault.”

Yep ... in the name of fair and unbiased reporting Billi Pod must admit that he has no viable excuse for this failure/omission to timely post ... none ... nada ... zilch.

Had a virtually finished draft but just didn’t get around to putting the finishing touches on it and posting.

Bottomline==>sloth, thy name is sometimes Billi Pod.

Anyway ... please forgive me ...

Now, moving on to an update and then a current report ...

First, I am happy to report that, obviously, Marty Kosarik and I made a successful venture to and from the outer-borough known as Brooklyn to see the magic show called THE ELEPHANT ROOM, playing at St. Ann’s Warehouse. Billi Pod’s belated report card on the show, involving three magicians==>B<==enjoyable, fun and very Brooklyn.

The show is definitely worth seeing.

The best part of the evening was being able to spend some one-on-one time with Marty, whom I have known for only a few months, in his role as a member of Dian Crystal’s posse. He is really a nice guy and is very good company. I plan to make a separate posting about him soon (with his approval, of course).

Yesterday was scheduled to be a theater doubleheader, the first show a matinee performance of the Broadway musical ONCE and then in the evening BIGGER THAN JESUS, at the NYU Skirball Center, down in The Village.

This is what I had prepared to post about ONCE ...

“2:00==>ONCE - “The story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music, resulting in a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together.” (Broadway - discounted TDF ticket)

This show had a very well-received Off Broadway run (unfortunately I didn’t get to see it then) and has just opened on Broadway to very favorable reviews.”

Well ... I found everything about this show to be totally enjoyable. The cast is outstanding and they all play musical instruments, which add to their characters, rather than detract as it often does.

As you enter the theater, the company of actor-musicians is onstage hosting a raucous jam session, during which you can go onstage and buy a drink. I went on stage but, of course, didn’t buy any booze.

The two leads are exceptional. Steve Kazee (Guy) makes a fine leading man, likable and attractive but conveying the character's inner anguish when he sings. Criston Milioti (Girl) is perfect as the straightforward and blunt heroine. Both of them excel as musicians.

Folks ... I highly recommend this show and it has “Tony-nominations” written all over it. So ... Billi Pod’s report card==>A.

When the show was over I came back to PHC to have my usual fruit and cheese plate in preparation for my evening’s event which was to be ... BIGGER THAN JESUS. This is what I was going to post about this show ...

Yeah ... I know ... but the concept sounded interesting and it is playing at NYU’s Skirball Center which usually has pretty good stuff. We will see ...”

Well, I guess it was around 6:00pm when I suddenly noticed the red light blinking on my landline answering machine ... WTF?? I now receive so few landline calls that I sometimes forget to check to see if I have any messages.

The message was from my ticket service informing me that they had made a mistake about the show ... that the performance date was supposed to be April 4th, not March 28th. WTF??

Oh, well ... nothing I could do about it. It was also too late to book an alternate show through any of my other ticket services.

Does this mean that Billi Pod stayed in last night? Come on people ... WTF do you think? Of course not ... get real ... instead he saw ...

7:15==>21 JUMP STREET - “About a pair of underachieving cops who are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.”

I totally, 110%, enjoyed this show. It was just the profane, gross-out, frat-boy humor that Billi Pod loves and was definitely in the mood for. There are several interesting cameo appearances that I will not spoil by identifying.

If this is your type of humor, then you gotta see this show. If it isn’t then just stay far far away.

One of the problems with skipping a posting is that the ensuing postings often go on way too long ... like this one ... sorry ‘bout this ...

Billi Pod’s Informed Observations On Tebow-Mania.

Good morning everyone out there in cyberspace.

OMFG!! Where did Spring go? It was cold and windy yesterday but today is even worse==>30º @ 8:30am in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World.

Looking out the windows of PHC it is so misleading because it is bright and beautiful but ... the wind is gusting and it is just plain Winter-like cold once you step outside. The good thing is - I have no reason to leave the cozy confines of PHC until this evening’s entertainment event, details below.

Folks ... as the title to this posting indicates ... Billi Pod wants to make some observations about Tebow-Mania, which has reached a media-fed fever-pitch already, so ... here goes ...

First, Tim Tebow is Tim Tebow. What you see is what you get. He is sincere and totally devoted to his religious beliefs. He ain’t gonna change regardless of where he is physically for the moment.

The media is creating the circus, not Timmy, for example, in today’s NY Post there was a full-page article criticizing Timmy’s choice of suit, shirt, tie and shoes for yesterday’s press conference. The article’s headline was: “TEBOW’S ‘SACK’ CLOTH.” People ... get real.

I am happy to report that the majority of the comments about the press conference itself were very favorable.

Now, why is Timmy here and a Jet? Well ... as more and more details are surfacing about the trade it is becoming apparent to Billi Pod that he opted not to accept a deal that would have sent him to his hometown of Jacksonville and the woeful Jaguars. He is here because he wanted to be in The Big Apple.

Why? OK ... take a deep breath ... MONEY!! Now ... calm down ... I am not ... repeat ... NOT ... saying this in any snarky or disparaging way ... so stay with me ...

I have long felt that Timmy’s primary purpose in this period of his life is to promote the various charitable and humanitarian projects he has been involved with over the years and that he has used his athletic abilities and “marketability” to raise funds for these and future projects.

I believe he recognizes that as an athlete he has a finite number of years in the spotlight and that he is trying to maximize the time he has remaining.

This is why he had no problem in leaving the small market Broncos and avoiding the morass known as Jacksonville. Jacksonville? Even Florida residents could care less about what happens in Jacksonville.

To support this theory Billi Pod also discovered a report that listed the top 5 most marketable celebrities as:

1. Oprah Winfrey

2. Adele

3. Kate Middleton

4. Tim Tebow

5. Will Smith

and, folks, this was before he moved to NYC, the country’s No. 1 media market.

During the ensuing months you will see more and more Tebow promotions/endorsements, so just be ready.

How all of this will play out on the field I just don’t know but I am confident that Timmy will be a positive influence in the otherwise acrimonious Jet locker room and that his devotion to winning will become apparent to even the army of saber-bearing neighsayers.

Yes ... Billi Pod believes that Timmy is a Jet to make as much MONEY as he can to support and fund his religious-based projects, which will grow and grow and grow over the next several years.

So, there you have it my loyal and faithful readers ... just remember where you read it first ... You are welcum ...

Now ... moving on to ...

Last night’s comedy show ELECTILE DYSFUNCTION: Laughing Liberally==>was gut-busting funny.

Among the performers was John Fugelsang, the comic who started the Mitt Romney “Etch A Sketch” fiasco. For you loyal and faithful readers who have no clue what I am talking about ...

“On CNN’s Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien, political comedian John Fugelsang asked Mitt Romney’s Communications Director Eric Fehrnstrom the following question:

“It’s fair to say that John McCain was considerably a more moderate candidate than the ones that Governor Romney faces now. Is there a concern that the pressure from Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to attach so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?”

Fehrnstrom responded: “Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch a Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again.”

And the YouTube video immediately went viral.

Totally enjoyed this show and I highly recommend it.

Billi Pod Reports On Things & Stuff==>Read It!!

As you loyal and faithful readers out there in the wasteland known as cyberspace know ... Monday is Billi Pod’s errands and stuff day.

I am happy to report that at 2:30pm on this brisk, windy and kinda cold day in The Big Apple, The Greatest City In The World, all of the tasks have been accomplished.

I won’t bore you with too many details, although I know most of you would be more than interested to have insight into Billi Pod’s personal world ... OK ... so ... today included two trips to the neighborhood Food Emporium. Two trips because I needed to restock my emergency supply of Fresca and paper towels.

But the major accomplishment today was finally having the guts to attempt to transfer all of my med ‘scripts from my old provider, Caremark, to the new provider, Medco, and then to setup Medco’s mail-delivery program.

In the name of fair and unbiased reporting I have to confess that my soul was filled with dread and foreboding when I dialed the 877 customer-service number. I was concerned because several of the ‘scripts had no remaining refills.

Well ... it couldn’t have gone better ... yep ... with the help of a very very pleasant representative I got everything setup in less than 10 minutes. They will contact the Dr. directly for refill authorization.

WHEW AND DOUBLE-WHEW!!

Folks ... I have always been a procrastinator and as I have gotten older it has gotten worse. Basically ... if I anticipate any problems/difficulties (real or imagined) I put “it” off until the very last minute, thereby doubly increasing my anxiety level(s).

This is why the past week has been so special for Billi Pod “personal-wise.”

What am I talking about (and maybe why?) ... well ... in the past week I did the following “extra” stuff ...

1. Made my annual finger-up-the-butt appointment with my old physician, Erik Goluboff, even though he is now with a new medical group, which required transferring data and tons and tons of paperwork and documentation.

2. Made an appointment with my dermotologist to address a rather nasty rash on my inner thigh that won’t go away. (It is now much better and under control).

3. Replaced my soon-to-expire Senior Discount Metrocard. For whatever reason they had not mailed me the new card. Had to go way downtown to the Metrocard Service Center to apply for and then receive a new card. Took 2 1/2 hours roundtrip.

4. Got a new 4S iPhone, got it setup, including transferring stuff from the old phone.

5. Renewed my New York Philharmonic Series.

6. Celebrated my 22nd AA Birthday.

7. As reported above ... set up new account with Medco and transferred all ‘scripts etc.

8. Had dinner and facetime with John Scott Reed. His “people” are becoming more and more difficult to deal with.

Plus, during this timeframe Billi Pod also attended 9 entertainment events.

OK ... OK ... I know ... I know ... boring ... but ... hey ... it’s my blog ... and I wanted to write about it ... so ... moving on to ...

Yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader was excellent ... beginning with ...

MAGIC/BIRD, the Broadway show about the relationship between Larry Bird and Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson==>B+

I liked this show much more than I had expected. It is written and directed by the same creative team that brought us LOMBARDI last season. The entire cast is excellent.

Billi Pod is not a major basketball fan, college or pro, so he found this work to be very informative and interesting. It is definitely worth seeing.

Then for the evening was ...

NATIONAL FESTIVAL CHORUS @ Carnegie Hall==>A

The multiple choruses and orchestras were excellent. Totally enjoyable. My seat was outstanding, in the first tier, in a center box. Couldn’t have been better. The face value of the ticket, for which I paid $9.00, was $110.00.

The concert over at 10:45pm and Billi Pod left Carnegie Hall with a happy smile on his face.

Yep ... a good Broadway show followed by an excellent classical music concert for a total out-of-pocket expense of $13.50. How can you beat that? Answer: I don’t think you can, anywhere in the World.

Tonight’s entertainment event is something a bit different ...

Saturday’s Doubleheader Was Only So-So.

And a very happy Sunday to all of my loyal and faithful readers out there in the hinterlands. I hope your weekend has been great up to this point.

Well ... in the name of fair and unbiased reporting Billi Pod must reveal that yesterday’s entertainment doubleheader was just so-so, perhaps even a bit below so-so. What am I talking about you are no doubt wondering? Well, the day went down like this ...

First is Billi Pod’s report card on the first entertainment event ...

CABARET @ Symphony Space, about the menacing final days of the Weimar Republic in Germany and the rise of Nazism==>B<==generally excellent performances from the college-aged cast. When I booked the show I didn’t know it was being produced by a college theater group affiliated with Columbia University.

The two young men who had the lead roles of the Emcee and the American writer were very good. I am glad I saw it.

The show clocked in at 2 hours and 30 minutes and I was a bit concerned that I would have a problem making my second show @ 7:00pm at a theater way down in the far eastern regions of The East Village. No problem though ... made it downtown in plenty of time to have a slice before the show and then pick up my ticket.

The first downside was, of course, catching the final 4 minutes of the Florida/Louisville game on my iPhone and watching us lose a game we really should have won. But ... even though we lost ... I am still very proud of BillyD and my Gators. GO GATORS!!

I met up with Dian Crystal at the theater and, of course, became part of her posse. This time it was only moi.

Now about the show ... oh ... the noise you hear in the background is the sound of Billi Pod still barfing about ...

THE LOWER DEPTHS, the reworking of Maxim Gorky’s so-called “masterpiece” about a ragged bunch of outcasts in the 1930s==>F-<==mind-numbingly bad and that is giving it the benefit of the doubt.

It is about as low as you can get ... not a single redeeming factor ... none ... nada ... zilch ... barf!! Really felt sorry for the actors on stage.

I fled in abject horror at intermission with My Lady, who gives it a grade of Z-.

Billi Pod says==>stay away from this piece of crap, stay far far away.

Hopefully today’s entertainment doubleheader will be better ...

2:00==>MAGIC/BIRD - “Chronicles the intertwined life stories of two basketball Hall of Famers, Larry Bird and Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson who electrified the nation on the court, reinvigorated the NBA, and turned their rivalry into one of the greatest and most famous friendships in professional sports.” (Broadway - complimentary ticket)

This show is in early previews and, unfortunately, most of the advanced buzz has been pretty negative. We will see and form our own opinion.

The evening's event is ...

8:30==>NATIONAL FESTIVAL CHORUS @ Carnegie Hall - “The program will include works by the conductor John Rutter, Tschaikowsky, Saint-Saens and others.” ($9.00 TDF ticket).

This sounds like a perfect way to end the weekend.

Have a very interesting upcoming week already booked. The only open date is Thursday and I am considering several options at the moment.

GO GATORS & Billi Pod’s Entertainment Doubleheader

Good morning to all of my friends out there in cyberspace.

I want to start this posting off with a huge shout-out to Billy Donovan and my Florida Gators for advancing to The Elite Eight in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The Gators will play #4 seeded Louisville at 4:30pm on CBS. The winner will then advance to The Final Four.

Billi Pod’s report card on last night’s THE CAPITOL STEPS @ Town Hall==>A<==all present, and immediate past, political figures were in the crosshairs of this highly talented troupe. To say that they were all skewered is to put it mildly.

It was well-performed, funny, profane, risqué, laugh producing and totally 110% enjoyable.

So glad I was able to score a ticket. The house was virtually soldout. My seat was in the middle of the balcony, but not a problem since I had gotten a hearing device before the show started.

I left the theater with a huge smile on my face. It was just what Billi Pod wanted/needed.

Today is yet another Saturday entertainment doubleheader for Billi Pod, starting with ...

3:00==>CABARET @ Symphony Space - “Kander and Ebb's groundbreaking 1966 musical, explores the seductive and menacing final days of the Weimar Republic by following the lives of a diverse group of figures, whose relationships grow and shatter as Germany hurtles towards catastrophe.” (Off Broadway - $9.00 TDF ticket).

I have liked this show from the time I saw the original production with Joel Grey as the Emcee way way back when.

Then ... for the evening is ...

7:00==>THE LOWER DEPTHS - “A contemporary reworking of Maxim Gorky's masterpiece. Set against a backdrop of 1930s depression-era America, a stranger arrives in the midst of a ragged bunch of outcasts, spinning tales of hope and redemption. But his 'beautiful lies' soon begin to expose some dark and painful truths.” (Off Broadway - complimentary ticket).

This is playing in a theater in the East Village. I will not come back to PHC between shows, and, I will be attending as a part of Dian Crystal’s posse. I have a kinda uneasy feeling in my gut about this show. I hope I am wrong.

Last night’s NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC @ Avery Fisher Hall concert featuring Schubert’s 9th Symphony==>awesome.

Can’t say the same for the opening number which was a 20-minute atonal piece of dreck called “Excerpts from The Bassarids” by someone named Henze (who??). Everyone seated around me simply hated it.

Tonight Billi Pod has something a bit different, and that is a comedy show by the group known as The Capitol Steps. This is an excerpt from their press materials ...

“The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them.

The group was born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin. So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor.

In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.”

The group is appearing at Town Hall and will perform numbers from their recently released, Desperate Housemembers, as well as brand-new songs in step with breaking news.

I have seen them perform several times and have always enjoyed their humor. They are a very talented group and Billi Pod is really looking forward to this show.

Loving my new iPhone. I am happy to report that the old iPhone has been assigned a new task that has somewhat eased the tensions around the apartment.

What, you are no doubt breathlessly asking? Well, as you can see from the picture ... it is now perched atop my SoundLogic sound system and feeds music into the system via various internet radio apps such as Pandora and iHeart Radio. The sound is very good and the old iPhone is pleased with its new role in Billi Pod’s World.

Timmy Tebow Is Now A Jet.

Good afternoon to all of my loyal and faithful readers out there in the hinterlands, boondocks and wastelands ... and other places like the cess-pool known as New Jersey ...

There was really weird and foggy weather at 7:30am this morning .... is it because Tebow-mania has overtaken The Big Apple? Jus askin’.

As I had anticipated the news media is already slobbering over the potential news stories about Timmy’s signing, the details of which were finally worked out late last night ...

Scott is in the middle of some extremely interesting projects at work. Unfortunately, he can’t share the specific details with any one, including moi.

7:30==>NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC @ Avery Fisher Hall - “The program is: Henze (who??) Excerpts from The Bassarids; and, Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, Great.” (discounted TDF ticket).

This concert is not one of my subscription series but I love Schubert, so when it showed up on TDF with seats basically in the same rear orchestra area where my subscription seats are, I just had to book it.

To all of my loyal and faithful readers out there in the hinterlands ... Billi Pod is happy to report that today he finally “bit-the-bullet” and went to the Apple Store on the Upper Westside and got a new 4S iPhone. Yes ... the sobbing you hear in the background is the old phone who feels betrayed after years of faithful service.

Yeah, I know ... but unfortunately loyalty doesn’t carry forward in the technology world - you just gotta update and upgrade when you have to ... sorry ... but that’s the way our tech. world operates.

I am happy to report that 99.5% of the data and apps have now been transferred.

It is an awesome device. I totally avoided even touching the new iPad.
